“After All These Years” is a wonderful view of the Hoppers from the green tobacco fields of North Carolina on the Hopper's farm, to the crowded halls of the Gaither Homecomings. You follow with intricate detail the humble beginnings of both Claude and Connie through the trials and hardships of being raised in the immediate post depression era, yet see them mature as a family and a ministry. You follow them as they become respected leaders in the Southern Gospel Industry.
There is a definite feeling of “knowing” the Hoppers after reading this book. I found myself laughing at their light hearted moments and crying with them at their personal losses. I felt that I was growing with them each step of the way. I have a new appreciation for the ministry side of the Hoppers, sharing their devotion, their loyalty, and their determination.
There are several rabbit trails in the lives of the Hoppers that gave me a better understanding and appreciation of such people as Bill and Gloria Gaither. I guess I got to “know” some of the other leaders of Southern Gospel Music while reading this book also.
I’m confident that you will be enthralled with the personal stories and be glued to the book as I was until you are completely finished. The more we know about our heroes in Southern Gospel Music, the more we love this music. When you finish this book, you will like the Hoppers even more.
