Aaron Crabb's story isn't a strange one to most Southern Gospel listeners. He was often referred to as "one of the twins" while traveling with the extremely successful Crabb Family. Aaron's awesome vocal talents were often overshadowed by that of his brother's (Jason Crabb) unique vocal gift. Now that the Crabb Family has officially disbanded, Aaron is getting a chance to show off his own talents along with his wife, Amanda Crabb.

After the Rain is the debut release from this talented couple. It features many of the same sounds that we heard from Aaron during his tenure with the Crabb Family. The album opens up with "After the Rain" - a song uncannily similar to CCM/Gospel act Anointed that features a r&b influenced instrumental jam towards the end. "To Know You Are Near" features the vocal talents of Aaron in a more inspirational based number with a more intimate feel than most Southern Gospel fans are probably used to. Another ballad follows, "Thou Art Worthy", which has Aaron & Amanda sharing feature work on a worship-oriented number with a beautiful piano accompaniment. "Miracle" is the group's debut radio single about how we all need miracles in our life to varying degrees.

"Everything" kicks things back up with a more pop oriented sound that features Amanda's stellar vocals. "Not Ashamed" is classic inspirational balladry that recalls the likes of early Michael English or Clay Crosse. "Alpha Omega" has a light jazz feel that is often heard in Black Gospel circles, and the duo pulls it off splendidly.

The album closes out with more Black Gospel influenced numbers like "God Will Make a Way" and the album highlight "Strength." After the Rain even includes the bonus cut "Eli's Track" which feature's the duo's son pounding on drums. While the cut is cute, it may become an odd track for the album after repeated listens.

Overall, After the Rain is a tremendous first offering for the talented duo and finally a chance to hear just how talented Aaron Crabb is. My main gripe is the real lack of up beat numbers, but for ministry settings, these songs work fine for the duo. There's not much that many traditional fans of Southern Gospel music would continually come back for, but fans of the Crabb Family and other progressive acts like TK & McRae, Hope's Call, or CrossWay will find much to enjoy.

I feel that this is one of the best "debut" CD's I have ever heard. I was able to meet Aaron and Amanda at NQC and was given a copy of "After the Rain" Once I listened to it and felt the meaning of the words, I knew that this would be a CD I would be listening to for a long time. Here we are 2 months after NQC and I still play it everyday! Nice job Aaron and Amanda!

Everyone needs to purchase this cd. Everyone should call their local southern gospel station and start requesting the song "Miracle".
