Republican Brad Luzadder, baritone singer for The Northmen, became the first person to announce his candidacy for the Marion City Council on Friday. Luzadder, 27, 1133 W. Sixth St., is seeking an at-large seat in next year's election.
"The city has given so much to me as a young man. ... It's time I give back to the community," he said.
Luzadder is a substitute teacher in Marion Community Schools and sings professionally in the The Northmen, a gospel quartet. He said he would try to bring cohesiveness on the council, saying the relationship between the council and Mayor Bill Henry's administration os strained. He said city government needs to be more positive and that negativity hurts the city. He also supports bringing more jobs to Marion and lowering taxes. "I want people to know Brad Luzadder is positive about Marion," he said.
This is Luzadder's first run for elected office. Candidates cannot file until January. The primary election is May 6.
