Aaron Crisler - “In Good Hands”

"I just smile and sing with joy down in my soul, 'cause I know He's in control
I cannot tell the times or seasons He has planned, but I know I'm in good hands…"

While those words were blaring through the speakers of Aaron Crisler's car stereo, Aaron found himself in an automobile accident in October 2003, and while he escaped without harm, he realized, as the title of his new solo recording says, he was "In Good Hands." As Aaron relates, "My car spun out of control and when it finally stopped, the last line of the song "but I know, I'm in good hands…" was playing. I immediately began to thank God that he had spared me. I could have died that night, but I know I am in good hands."

Aaron, who is 26 years old from Atlanta, Georgia, grew up listening to Southern Gospel Music. Having cut his teeth on groups like the Kingsmen, Wendy Bagwell & The Sunliters, Perrys, Nelons and Hemphills, Aaron knew at an early age that music was his life. Having grown up around the legendary Joyful Noise Supper Club in East Point, GA, it was there his love for Southern Gospel Music was solidified. Aaron reminisces, "At 5 years old I was standing onstage introducing the groups there and they would pull me up to sing with them. I remember so clearly standing on that stage singing "He's Still Working on Me" with the Hemphills. I have some incredible memories of that place."

After high school, Aaron moved to San Diego, California in 1996 to tour with a musical show there, and then moved to Sevierville, Tennessee a year later to work at Dollywood and performed in the 50's show "Let the Good Times Roll." In 2000, Aaron joined the legendary Naomi and the Segos as their tenor singer. Eventually, a year later Aaron left the group. Within a year of parting with Naomi, he had joined forces with Mike and Rhonda Pillow of Lamp Music Group. Aaron shares how they met, "I first met Mike and Rhonda at a concert in Bremen, Georgia. Mike knew of me from the time I spent with Naomi and the Segos. A few weeks after that night we met again and talked and I have been working with the company ever since. I basically serve as Mike's assistant. I oversee the daily procedures as well as press items and help the artists from start to finish with their projects. I really enjoy my job. I get to be around the music I love all day long! I couldn't ask for anything better!"

Aside from his work at Lamp Music Group, Aaron also stays quite busy designing and maintaining websites. Aaron has been doing web design since 1999 and The Perrys, Old Time Gospel Hour Quartet, Ricky Atkinson & Compassion, Nicole Watts Jenkins, The Dominion Agency and many others utilize Aaron's expertise in web design.

In the midst of his web design business and working for Lamp Music Group, Aaron still sings and has found time to record a new recording entitled, "In Good Hands", which is his first solo endeavor. Aaron shares, "This recording was not an overnight process at all. In fact, I began choosing songs for this project about a year before I ever went into the studio. I must have went through at least 500 songs and I prayed God's hand to direct me each step of the way."

Several of the songs found on this recording have significant meanings to Aaron as he shares, "The song "In Good Hands" is special to me because of the accident back last fall, and I just love the jazz stylings. I have loved the old hymn "The Love of God" for many years. I called Anthony Burger, who has always been a great source of encouragement and support to me, and asked him if he would make a special guest appearance and play this for me on the CD. He agreed and the end result is a beautiful track that complements the song so very well."

One song that Aaron says is especially meaningful to him is the song "When Life Brings You to Your Knees." Aaron tells the story behind the song, "My parents separated a little over a year ago. Due to some decisions made by my father, it literally ripped our family apart. I watched my Mom suffer through a near nervous breakdown, and I watched my sister have a very rough time with the situation. She is only 15, and I know she still hurts because of it. I had tried to help as much as I could but it got to the point where I realized that there was nothing else I could do. I felt hopeless, desperate, and out of control. I got to thinking about how life just doesn't go right sometimes, and how different situations bring us to our knees. I know I have been at the point where I've just been on my knees wondering what I was going to do and what was going to happen. Then I started to not only think of my current situation but I also started to think of what has been happening to our country lately with the World Trade Center, and the war, sometimes it seems to be all we can take to just survive. When life gets too much, pray. When you are brought to your knees, stay there and pray, and let God work it out." Aaron considers this song to be one that he can strongly minister through in concert. "I feel that I can minister to those hurting and going through tough things because I've been through it. I also know what it's like to hurt privately and feel like life is caving in on you. That is one of the reason's that song is so special to me. I've been there!"

Aaron's current single release, "High and Mighty", is a song written by legendary country singer, Dolly Parton. Dolly even made a special appearance on the song as her and Aaron sang it as a duet. Aaron tells how Dolly came to sing with him on the song, "Performing at Dollywood, I was able to interact with her a few times, although I never got the chance to really chat with her. A few months ago, she was here in Atlanta at a Charity event with Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin and Dabney Coleman. I attended the function as a guest of a friend of mine, and at the event I was able to chat with her for a few minutes. When I got down to the song selection, I remembered this song that Dolly wrote that was on her "Slow Dancing with the Moon" album, and I wanted to record it. Then one night it hit me to ask Dolly to sing on it. I contacted her and she said she was honored that I wanted to sing one of her songs and she would love to sing on it with me. I've always been an admirer of Dolly Parton and this is my favorite Gospel song that she has written."

Debuting on Aaron's recording is a song he wrote with his best friend, Scott England entitled, "Your Love Remains." Aaron picks up the story, "I will be the first to admit that I am not a perfect person and that I have surely messed up in my life, but one thing remains consistent is His love for me! I began to think about that one night and called Scott, and told him that I wanted him to help me capture what I had been thinking about in a song. I don't claim to be a songwriter, yet God gave me this song. We as humans can be fickle and unstable, but God's love remains the same forever and ever."

In the year 2004, Aaron plans to take things up a notch and start pushing his singing more. He recently signed with Michael Davis and the Dominion Agency and is excited about what the future holds. "I will continue to work for Lamp Music Group, but I do plan on increasing my touring for 2004 though. I have known Michael Davis and his family since I was a child. He and his wife were friends with my Nana and Pop. So when the time came for me to partner with someone, it just seemed right! The Davis family is very special to me and I am honored to be working with them." What can one expect at an Aaron Crisler concert? "I love to have fun and I love to worship and I love to minister. I am not a boring Christian, but I am serious about what I do. In my services and concerts, I let the Holy Spirit control what goes on. Like everyone, I do have an order to what I do, but I am totally open to the Spirit and try to be sensitive to it. I try to involve the crowd as much as possible. I love to have a good time so you will definitely have a good time with me in concert. I even like to hold one on one conversations with people in the audience while I am singing, so be warned! But there's also a time of ministering and worship."

Yes, it seems Aaron is in good hands. If he learned anything traveling with Naomi Sego, he says "Go where He leads and don't ask any questions." And that is exactly what he intends to do. Aaron's vibrant talent and love for God is very evident from the time that you first meet him. Although he is no newcomer to Southern Gospel Music many are currently being blessed by His music ministry through his brand new Mountain Top Recording. Aaron has done a great job behind the scenes at the Lamp offices, and it was also a pleasure to produce his first major label project. I can guarantee it won't be his last.
Pick up one these cd's at the next concert you attend.
