Much like Mercy's Well's, Hymns: Stories for Life.Stories that Live CD, this latest effort from the Beene Family is given similar treatment; presenting classic songs and hymns with simple, yet elegant arrangements, with basic piano accompaniment, and the Beene Family pull it off quite well. Their voices are definitely suited for these types of recordings, and the musical arrangements literally breathe new life into some of these classic and weathered tunes.

The recording starts with a very classy and laid back rendition of the Goodman classic, "GOD WALKS THE DARK HILLS" and Chrysta does a fabulous job and successfully manages to make the song all her own. The family also turns in a very nice rendition of one of my all time favorites, "CITY OF GOLD".

Along with presenting many other classics and hymns like "THE LIGHTHOUSE", "SOMEBODY LOVED ME", "THERE IS A RIVER" and "O I WANT TO SEE HIM", the family also blended several songs into outstanding medleys and mini-medleys like "SWEET BEULAH LAND w/ IS NOT THIS THE LAND OF BEULAH", "THE OLD RUGGED CROSS w/ I BELIEVE IN A HILL CALLED MOUNT CALVARY and THE OLD RUGGED CROSS MADE THE DIFFERENCE", "THE UNSEEN HAND w/ TAKE MY HAND, PRECIOUS LORD" and "HOW GREAT IS OUR GOD w/ HOW GREAT THOU ART".

Some people may tend to think that recordings like these are pretty boring.I just find them pretty; this is ear candy to me and I find them quite relaxing and uplifting. If you enjoy the old songs done with "bare bones" instrumentation with some pretty neat arrangements thrown in, you'll definitely find a lot to enjoy here.
