Sharron Kay King - Old Ribbons and Bows

If you like your Christmas music with an old time country flavor, then Sharron Kay King's new Christmas offering is right up your alley. The entire recording has a flare for what's considered "old country", and it fits her like a glove, and leaves you with a nice warm, cozy feeling that feels like Christmas. This isn't like a lot of Southern Gospel Christmas recordings that leave you with a lacking feeling inside, because this has all the feel and warmth of Christmas.
The self penned, "STILL THE GREATEST GIFT OF ALL" sets the tone for the entire recording as Sharron weaves her way through classics like "BEAUTIFUL STAR OF BETHLEHEM", "SILENT NIGHT", "GO TELL IT ON THE MOUNTAIN" and "WHO DO YOU THINK?" (one of my favorite Christmas tunes) as well as newer songs such as "THE WAY IN A MANGER FOR ME", "OLD RIBBONS AND BOWS" (I love the folk feel of this tune), "CHRISTMAS THINGS I LOVE" (a sentimental song recalling memories of the past), "IS THERE ROOM IN YOUR CHRISTMAS FOR JESUS?" (I love the country swing on this song) and "A BABY WAS BORN". Each song is performed in Sharron's inimitable style and it's her down home, earthy sound that makes this Christmas recording stand out for me.
I don't make it a habit to review Christmas recordings, as they're extremely difficult for me to do, plus it's to find a lot to like about the majority of the Southern Gospel Christmas releases. But once in awhile, one comes along such as this one that I just have to talk about. While I wouldn't say the production quality is the same as her previous couple of releases, it's still quite good, and worth adding to your Christmas collection.
