Label- Independent
Producer- Nathan Hines and Art Bain

Nathan Hines is a talented singer, songwriter from Hiddenite, North Carolina. He has produced a new project, The Sound of Freedom that features some strong vocals and a nice variety of music.

Kicking off the project is “I Go to the River”, a great song written by Ray Boltz, Steve Milliken, and Brent Alan Henderson. “I Know Who Can” is a nice ballad written by Nathan. Nathan’s style leans toward CCM with a touch of Country.

The title song of the album, “The Sound of Freedom”, is a strong God and Country song. Nathan’s son is serving in the Marine Corps and was part of the inspiration for this song. This was a highlight of the recording and a well written song. “What Held You on the Cross” slows the tempo down and has a Pop feel to it. “I Know Jesus” picks the tempo up and is a more traditional Country Gospel song and is another of Nathan’s original compositions. Ty Lacy and Darrell Brown are the writers of “Somebody’s Praying You Thru”. This ballad about the power of prayer is well produced and once again has some Pop influences.

“Anchor of My Soul” is a strong ballad written by Paul Morcom. This is one of the better songs on the project. Nathan has included the great Mike Bowling, Marty Funderburk song, “No Stranger to the Valley”. Nathan sings this song with great feeling and stays true to Mike Bowlings original recording of the song.

Over the last few years, several artists, including the Gaither Vocal Band, have brought back the Larry Gatlin song, “Heartbreak Ridge and New Hope Road”. This song was a nice change of pace, picking the tempo up some. “Welcome Home” closes the project. This song has cross over potential. It is a good story about a soldier’s return home and how he is made to feel welcome, and most importantly, thanked for his service to his country.

Nathan has put together a very listenable project. The tracks were well done and the singing was very good. I think that one or two more up tempo songs would have given the recording a little more balance but I enjoyed it just the same.
