Old Time Gospel Hour Quartet - The Word Is Out
Label: Independent
Producer: Eddie Howard
Website: http://www.otghquartet.com
For the past several years, the Old Time Gospel Hour Qt. has been one of the leading quartets in our industry. This lineup of men is no exception to the rule. They have put together a great recording. They have dedicated the project to the memory of their founder, Dr. Jerry Falwell who tragically passed away a few weeks before the release of this project.
“The Word Is Out” is a very nice ballad featuring, tenor, Tony Jarman. Tony co-wrote this strong ballad with Phil Cross and it is the current single release of the group. “Under The Blood” features bass singer, Jerry Pilgrim, who is one of the industries best kept secrets. This song, written by Woody Wright, has a very commercial sound.
Gina Vera and Rich Adkins have written a beautiful ballad, “I Won’t Trade My Crown”. This song features Tony Jarman once again. Tony is one of the finest tenors in Southern Gospel Music. I am saddened to hear that he is leaving the OTGHQ because they have a lot of upside and a strong sound. “He Loves Me So” is a nice mid-tempo song written by Phil Johnson. This song is more of an easy listening tune.
“One of Those Days” is a happy little song from the pen of Phil Cross and features baritone singer, Ron Grimes. Lead singer, Wyatt Wilson takes the lead on the song, “But God”, written by Rodney Griffin and Twila McBride. This is another very commercial ballad. Gerald Crabb has contributed a great song for the quartet, “God’s Not Finished with Me Yet”. This lets Ron Grimes show off a little on this hand clapper. One of the greatest songs ever written without a doubt is the Mosie Lister classic, “’Til The Storm Passes By”. Jerry Pilgrim does this song as well anyone ever has. Jerry has a very rich bass voice yet can take a bass lead with the best of them. This is a very pretty arrangement of this great song.
“One Step at a Time”, written by Chris Binion picks the tempo up and also features Jerry. “There is Peace” is a nice ballad by Patti Hawkins. There are some nice harmonies on this song and some interesting chord progressions from the verse to the chorus.
Jerry Pilgrim has contributed a very nice song to the project. “Waiting for the Day” has a little bit of a Cajun beat to it. Wyatt has a little fun with this song. They close the project out with “Until the Time Comes to Leave”, another great song from Woody Wright. This is a very melodic ballad and is a good choice as an ending song.
This group has gone through several changes over the last few years but they have kept the quality level high. Go to their website and check the project out for yourself. If you enjoy good quartet singing, you’ll want to get a copy of “The Word is Out”.
