Heartbeat - Everyday
Label: Independent
Vocal Producers: Mark Mathes and Danny Shelton
Track Producers: Tim Parton and E. T. Everett
Heartbeat has been a mainstay in the Southern Gospel community of Central Missouri for over 15 years. This project, their first as a trio, is, without question, their best project to date. Featuring 9 brand new songs from the pen of one of Gospel Music’s most prominent writers, Mark Mathes, Everyday is a project that you should check out.
“Everyday” kicks the project off with a bang and features, soprano, Michelle Pyatt. Michelle has a powerful voice, reminiscent of some of the great female vocalists of the past. “On the Banks of the River” is a classic Southern Gospel barn burner. Mark turns in a great vocal performance on this one.
“I Cannot Keep Silent” is a Praise and Worship style song and features, alto, Annette Steelman. Annette’s laid back, smooth vocals fit this song very well. “Gonna Rise” is another hand clapper that has that Hopper sound to it.
Mark Mathes has a very cutting edge vocal style and he does a great job on the ballad, “Live for You Today”. Many of the songs on this project reflect his musical backgrounds, Southern Gospel and his Praise and Worship influences. “What I Wasn’t Looking For” has a different twist lyrically. This song is very commercial and I expect to hear a major cut on it in the future. Michelle turns in another strong performance on this one. “All Things are Possible” has a little bit of that Lanny Wolfe Trio, McGruders style to it.
One of the highlights of this project is the song “No More Valleys”. This song is very melodic and has some very nice harmonies. They have included a powerful praise medley on the project that includes the songs, “You Are Good”, “How Great Is Our God”, and “How Great Thou Art”.
The closing song on the project, “The Music Doesn’t Just Stop Here” is a touching ballad.
Heartbeat has produced a great project. The tracks are hot, the harmonies are smooth and the songs are anointed. What more could you ask for?
