One of the most diverse and creative talents in Southern Gospel Music is that of the Talley Trio. It's amazing sometimes as they wind their way through varying arrangements and styles, that they can tackle anything, and do it with such style and grace. Their last recording, Rise Above, was probably their most progressive undertaking, and while this latest release takes a more conservative approach, it sounds great. Featuring quite a number of slower tunes, with a couple of uptempo songs thrown in here and there, this is quite an exceptional piece of work. The accompanying DVD is an added bonus as Roger, Debra and Lauren take into the makings of the recording and shares some insight into what this recording means to them, and the people they have shared the stage with.

With horns blazing, the recording starts with the traditional sounds of the upbeat "GOD IS GREAT, GOOD AND MERCIFUL" before things slow down just a bit as Roger and Lauren sing "TRUE LOVE HAS NO LIMITS". Continuing with the love theme, "PARAMOUNT LOVE" penned by Sandy Knight follows and features Connie Hopper as she lends her vocals to the song. I really love the ending of the song.the harmonies are absolutely mesmerizing.

There are a couple of other moments where we are treated with guest vocalists. "THAT'S ENOUGH" which features Jake Hess (posthumously) and "TOO MUCH TO GAIN TO LOSE" which features an excellent performance by Marcy Kelsey Beckett (a lady Debra Talley sang with prior to joining the Hoppers around 1980) are both excellently executed songs and are true highlights of the recording.

What is probably the biggest highlight is the emotionally tinged, "THE BROKEN ONES", which features Lauren. Written by Jerry Salley, I love the gripping lyric, "love the broken ones, the ones who need a little patching done, see the diamond in the rough, and make it shine like new.if everybody loved like He does, there'd be a lot less broken ones". This would be an easy #1 song. Another emotionally tinged song that will probably hold a special place the in the hearts of mothers and daughters alike is the duet with Debra and Lauren entitled, "I THINK TOO MUCH OF HER."

The recording ends with probably the most progressive tune on the recording. "PREACH" which was penned by Paula Stefanovich (writer for the Hoppers hit song, "Jerusalem") features Lauren as well as scripture readings by John Hagee, and is a fantastic ending to a brilliant recording.

The Talley Trio has seen many stages since the original group started almost 25 years ago, and they have proven time and time again that they can tote the mail, no matter what the musical style may be. Be it Southern Gospel, Contemporary, Inspirational, or Praise & Worship, High Church or Country Church, they can do it all.

I think this is a great project. I love BROKEN ONES & I THINK TOO MUCH OF HER. Of course, THAT'S ENOUGH is a grerata song, too. Another great effort by a great trio.

Definitely not my favorite Talley Trio project, but I did enjoy "That's Enough" and "Preach".

I love BROKEN ONES & I THINK TOO MUCH OF HER. Also, THAT'S ENOUGH is a neat cut. A very different type of project but very very good.

This is a great project. I'm glad to see that these folks remember their roots. I first heard Debbie with the Songmasters in the mid seventies. Marcy Kelsey Beckett is one of the great voices of all time. You can hear her influence in her son, Dale Shipley's voice as well. Thanks Talley Trio for letting her voice be heard again on a national scale.

The Broken Ones is one of the best songs I have heard in a long time. Very well written, and the melody is great. Lauren did a fantastic job on it. A song like needs to be on country radio. If Martina Mcbride's "Anyway" can make it SG Radio, then "The Broken Ones" could cross over too.
