Karen, New River has been around for a few years now. You have weathered many storms and enjoyed many victories. What is the secret to the groups longevity?
Staying committed to our calling
How do you keep things fresh and inspired?
Constantly praying God will renew our minds and spirits.
Susan, why aren't you blonde?
Susan says, "I'm much too smart!" Devin is blonde like Karen.
Devin, Karen often says from stage that you keep them looking young. What's it like traveling with two "older" women?
It's like traveling with my "Grandmothers!"
Do Karen and Susan ever give you any "motherly" advice?
Sometimes. They're always watching out for me.
On a more serious note, describe for us the Ministry side of KP&NR. Describe the Entertainment side pf KP&NR.
Our main prayers are for believers to be uplifted and encouraged and hopefully the lost will be saved. We always try to give someone a chance to make things right with God. However, in a world full of problems, it's nice to laugh and forget about our cares for a while.
How do the two sides of entertainment and ministry work together?
Ministry and entertainment definitely go hand in hand.
Karen, you have always had a gift for the ability to deliver those big ballads. "Daddy's Home", "Four Days Late", "The Tomb Wasn't Empty", and now "Last Night". Do you really love that style of song or is there something else that really hits your hot button for singing?
I love any song with great lyrics. I love singing songs that "move" me.
Since both Karen and Susan's children have been raised "on the road", are there any plans for eventually involving the children in KP&NR? Any up and coming singers in the group?
They are very involved with us "behind the scenes." They are musically inclined. Hopefully they'll sing with us one day.
If the group could only sing one more song, what would it be? Why?
Four Days Late. I would want to tell everyone that Jesus is always on time and will always be there for them.
What is usually in the CD player on the bus as you are traveling down the road? Do any of you ever secretly listen to anything that isn't Southern Gospel?
[NEW RIVER] We watch the latest DVD of New Song almost every night before we go on stage. We listen to XM Radio. Outside of Southern Gospel, we like Michael Buble, Martina McBride, Celine Deon, Third Day, Chris Tomlin, Natalie Grant, and many others.
