Could You Be Famous?
![]() Everyday in an office, on a plane, in a studio or in my car, I am hit with the senseless attacks from those fame has denied its embrace. I guess you are wondering what I mean? This is not a new problem, in fact its as old as time. Jealousy and coveting. Just last week, I had a chance to eat dinner with one of the worlds biggest movie stars and her husband in Denver, Colorado. I was explaining to her the daily grind of dealing with the termites in life. (Termites) not the little bugs that eat away secretly and privately behind your back at the very important beams that hold your entire house up. But, the termites within the industry that have nothing better to do than circle the famous and pick apart the thing they themselves cannot obtain in their own lives or careers. This actress went on to tell me, "I always wanted to be famous, and once I got it. I wanted to be a shadow on a wall, with no face." Reader Comments
I have found that those who are truly successful and have achieved great things for God are usually those with the most humble spirits, seemingly unaffected by their accomplishments. It is those who perceive themselves to have attained fame who are caught up in it and toot their own horns. Their attitudes toward others and their jealousy of others' accomplishments betray them for the real person they are inside. Others quickly see who they really are. Those who are true to God and do what they do for Him may be talked about and criticized by those who have different agendas, but God will protect His own. As you said in a way, "What goes around, comes around." The Golden Rule is still good today...Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Wish more people would!

I agree, and I was saddened and disappointed when I entered the gospel music field, at all the back-biting, FAVORTISM, and shunning thats goes on in this field. We are all in the business because we want ( or should want) to spread the love and word of Jesus Christ, either through music, preaching, or just 1 on 1 sharing. Once we lose focus of that, it's a downward spiral affect.
I, as a solo artist ( along with many other solo artist) find it harder to get representation and help with my ministry because of being a solo artist and not in a group, or on a major label. I know in my heart and spirit this is this field that God has placed me in, and I want nothing more than to sing, and travel, and promote the saving power of Jesus through song. Some lives may never be touched by a lenghty sermon... but I know first hand that music is a VERY powerful thing. I have sang at some places where people come up and say, " Thomas, that song gave peace and contentment to my soul, and you don't know how much I needed to hear that." But I do know. Music is a lifeline to me. Such artist as Libbi Stuffle ( a true disciple of Christ), The MaHarreys, The Freemans, And Signature Sound have really brought me through some major milestones in my life. Do I want fame? Awards? A bus and the road? Yes. I believe that all God's children are entitled to royality and riches. But during it all my MAIN FOCUS is that I want to be in the center of His will. Someday, God will place upon someone's heart to take a chance on me and give me the desires of my heart. The prayers of a righteous man availeth much. Until then... Great article Shane,
It would do us all good to rememeber Apostle Pauls writings to those in Philipi. Philipians 2:2-4 says it best. "Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord and one mind. Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than themselves. Look not everyman on his own things, but every man also on the things of others." In a nut shell he is saying that we should put everyone else above ourselves and that we should not gossip or say negatives things about each other. As my mother use to say "If you can't say anything good about anyone...the don't say anything at all. Another great article from one of our industries best promoters!!! We love you Shane! " But, the termites within the industry that have nothing better to do than circle the famous and pick apart the thing they themselves cannot obtain in their own lives or careers." Thanks for putting into a clear consise statement all the thoughts and reactions I and others have had reading the drones of folks who 'pick apart they thing they themselves cannot obtain'.
