The title cut, “Day of Splendor” starts off this cd with a nice medium tempo. I really enjoyed the melody on the original tune written by David Martin and group founder Garry Polston. In fact, Garry wrote a total of five songs on the record. His songs have a very familiar feel, and they’re easy to pick up and start singing along. “That’s just like God” with its bass features will definitely get stuck in your head. A nice rendition of Conrad Cook’s “Gloryroad” follows and provides a nice bridge into “I Can Hardly Wait.” Elements of which reminded me of something the Happy Goodman’s might have done.

“Walk that Lonesome Road” written by gospel great, J. D. Sumner as expected, once again features the group’s bass singer. “Glorious Sunrise” begins with a grand flourish on the piano and overall musically was a little strange. In fact, that’s something that seemed to be a common thread throughout the project. The tracks are obviously done with synthesized sounds, which is understandable for groups on a budget. However, I would rather hear a quality basic track than an orchestra of digital sounds any day.

Most of the offerings on the project are medium and slow in tempo. “I Believe He Will,” helped to bring up overall the mood of the record. “Family Bible, Walkin’ With Jesus, and “When God Shall Call Me Home to Glory,” all kind of blurred together for me. “How Great Thou Art” starts beautifully featuring one of the ladies. However, as the song progresses, the pitches get questionable and in my opinion included perhaps one too many key changes for this particular vocalist’s range. The disc ends with “We Are America.” Obviously patriotic, it is perhaps the best song on the project. Featuring the family’s youngest member, Alexis as well as solo’s from the entire group and a quality track. Pitch problems prevailed for at least the last half of the record preventing the group from ever really achieving a tight blend. I did enjoy the song selections, and think quite highly of Mr. Polston’s writing. The last cut, as previously stated was the strongest and would do wonderfully for patriotic events. All the members had good voices, but I look for them to develop their sound further in the future.

I would like to say thank you for reviewing our project, "Day of Splendor" 2 years later after we sent it to you. I am appalled at the rating we received of 2 1/2 stars...Don't get me wrong - I do not think we are the greatest group out there at all - I do however think that we have a great sound and that this project is one of the best we have ever done in the studio. There are other Industry Professionals who have stated that this CD was fantastic and that they loved our arrangements. I have seen other even full-time groups' ratings get higher ratings than we did and their CD was awful. I wish I knew how you came up with the ratings that you do.

As for the rendition of "How Great Thou Art", it was not at all too high - in fact, this is the first complaint that I have ever received from it. I am sorry that it was not pleasing to you

To The Garry Polston Family - I absolutely love this CD - it is the best you have recorded and you have nothing to be ashamed of. I do not agree with the person who reviewed your CD and the people who follow your ministry do not agree with it either. God Bless each of you and do not let this review get you down! Keep on singing for Jesus and ministering to others!

Hmm. I haven't heard this project, but let me address two things as a fellow reviewer for the site.

1 - SGN gets hundreds of CDs a month from people wanting their CDs reviewed. They can not guarantee that the CD will be reviewed a week after, a month after, or even a year after receiving it. Unfortunately, the site doesn't have enough writers for that.

2 - I thought that Leah did a fine job of explaining why the CD received the rating it did. 2 1/2 starts out of 5 means it is right in the middle. It's an average CD. There certainly is nothing wrong with that score.
