Sharron, I know that you have a tremendous testimony. Can you share a little of it with us here?

God has been so good to me! Growing up I was never taught the first thing about salvation. The only churchin' I had was my Grandma taking me to Sunday School when I was around 4 or 5 years old. She taught me the song, "Jesus Loves Me." At the age of 27, I found myself very alone and strung out on drugs and alcohol. My family turned their backs on me and my own Mother disowned me. Oh but for the grace of God! In July 1987, I found myself in a little Pentecostal church in Sandgap, KY. Conviction all over me. A sweet little old sister of the church came back and took my hand, lead me to the alter and said "hunny, you need to pray." Well, my first response was, I don't know how. She simply looked at me and smiled and said, "Let your heart do the talking." That's all it took. My heart busted wide open. God saved me, forgave me and completely set me free, of nearly 14 years of addictions that very night. Praise His holy name! Jesus really does love us! This July, I have been serving God for 20 years! And my Mother and I now are the best of friends!

As a soloist, do you have to choose your music differently than a group would? What kind of songs best suit your style?

I don't think quartet music is cut out for soloists unless ya have 3 other personalities singing with ya! Ha ha NO, seriously, I put a lot of thought into my song choices. One thing I have learned in recording is that not every song I would love to record is cut out for me to sing. Wither I'm using one of my own or someone else's, a song has to minister to me. I will often sing a new song in concert just to see how the folks respond to it. I tend to lean more toward ballads with strong messages. I love the feel good songs too. But for me... simple country sounds with a mix of bluegrass and folk.

What brought you to the realization that you wanted to be a full time music minister?

Quite frankly, I had no desire to be full time. I have never thought of myself as good enough to be singing professionally. It's only been in the last couple of years that I have accepted my calling.

What do you do to amuse yourself while on the road?

Well, believe it or not, I love cartoon dvds. My favorite right now is Flushed Away! Other than that, I can always find a place to shop!

You seem to be having some very good radio success. How do you decide what songs go to radio?

First, I pray about it. I love to send out songs that really minister to the hearts of the listeners. Then I will ask close friends to give their input and my producer and radio promoter always share their opinions too.

Have you put your hand to any songwriting?

I love to write. I write mostly for myself; It's my way of relating how I feel and what I've been through in this life. I'm no preacher by any means so my songs are my sermons. The first song I ever wrote was "My Best Friend." I wrote My Best Friend nearly 18 years ago and kept it tucked away in a tablet cause I felt it wasn't good enough to share with anybody. But, it proved to be my first charting song. God has a way of timing things out, doesn't He? Then I released "Chin Up, Journey On" and it stayed on the charts for about 5 or 6 months I guess. I'm not even sure how many songs I have written.

Tell us what it is like to be in a concert with Sharron Kay King. Do you prefer church or concert settings?

I'm just me regardless of where I am. I try to sing songs that folks request. Often times I will not have a line up to follow for I want to be sensitive to the voice of God. As far as a church verses a concert setting, that's not important to me. I love to have a good time serving the Lord where ever I am. I love to tell a good joke too if I can remember! We need to be real!!!!

Is there some place that you would love to sing that you haven't made it to yet?

Wherever God opens the door is the only place I want to sing. Sometimes we set our goals selfishly and that could cause unwanted confusion in our lives. With that being said, the only other place I'm waiting to sing is Heaven. That's a goal we should all have!

What is your strongest area of ministry?

That's a hard question for me... I feel so unworthy to be representing the Kingdom of God. Even after all these years I still wonder what I have to offer anyone! Folks will often share with me how my music touches their heart. They tell me that my songs relate to life in general. So, I guess I would have to say that God uses me in that fashion. I love singing songs that tell a story, that give hope to the hopeless. I love singing about Him~!
