PRODUCER: David Phelps
Label: Word Records
Website: DavidPhelps.com

David Phelps has had quite the career already. The pop singer with the big voice got his start with Southern Gospel stalwarts Gaither Vocal Band. He released three impressive solo outings and a Christmas record while still recording with the Vocal Band. Last year, Phelps left the Vocal Band to concentrate on his already hectic solo career. Now, Phelps is releasing his first ever live recording - Legacy of Love: David Phelps Live! Recorded at the Alabama Theatre in Birmingham, Alabama to a packed house, Legacy of Love features songs from Phelps' two solo outings on Word Records - as well as a couple new songs found only on this recording. For the most part, the live album features Phelps doing what he does best - singing sky high on songs that soar - such as tunes like "Virtuoso", "Just As I Am", "With His Love (Sing Holy)", and "Behold the Lamb." He also has some softer moments that are really some of the finer moments on the CD - such as "Gentle Savior", "God Will Take Care of You", and "Bring Him Home." Overall, Legacy of Love will probably only appeal to fans of Phelps. New listeners should probably wait and see what Phelps does on his next studio outing.

Looks like James agrees with me that the project at least deserves 4 stars....again I see no reason for a deduction except song selection...that should not count 1.5 stars.

The difference between your review and the other reviews you linked to is this...they point out what they specifically did not like about the project and you did not. Also, one of those is a review of the DVD and not the CD, which is a totally different reviewing perspective. There are components in a video that are not reviewed on a CD.

Chris D. Unthank's avatar While he says he probably would have given it 4 stars - he also said he can see why I gave it the rating I did.

You do realize that you arguing over a HALF a star. A HALF A STAR people. The star rating isn't there for you to point out how BAD the CD is - it's there for a comparison to the artist's past work as well as how it compares to other albums within it's genre. This album is a 3 1/2 star album. It's a great effort. A solid piece of work. Nothing more, nothing less.

Chris D. Unthank's avatar BTW - that review that I posted was a review of the CD/DVD combo. It still counts - and it still shows that OTHERS gave the album similar reviews to mine.

Bassinger, get over it! If you don't like the way the reviews run, why don't you apply to be a reviewer yourself. You seem to know so much!

I agree w/ the rating entirely...Especially in reference to the DVD. I may have rated it lower. In my opinion David overdid it (the DVD)a bit. It seemed little too charming, too quirky, too put-on at times. I would rather have just listened and watched him sing. That...he does well. Very well. I even found his choice of wardrobe odd. The lighting was fantastic...The band and singers sounded great...The facility was beautiful but the overall product was, as Chris said, just not what I believe David is capable of. In reality that is a compliment. As good as you all (and I) think he is already...I think he can do better. That's how much I think of his abilities. He is an amazingly capable vocalist and stylistically flexible. You are right on Chris...Keep it real.

OK - since everybody is fired up now. Yes, I am making an argument for 1/2 star because there is a difference in 3.5 and 4 stars....and you know it. I feel like it is worthy of 4 stars - I never said I "know so much" about anything. I am not asking for Chris to change his rating, but I am asking for him to be more specific as to why he gave that rating. Aaron gave a better synopsis of the project/DVD than was given in the review. I am not asking you to say how BAD a project is, but am sking your to point out the goods and the bads of the project....which is what I think a review is.

Chris D. Unthank's avatar The review has already been posted. I'm not going to write up a new review just because YOU aren't happy with the star rating.

I don't have to point out everything that is wrong with the CD when I give a star rating. AGAIN - a star rating is used as a comparison between this project and the artist's past projects and projects within the same genre. That's what the star rating is there for. Please stop reading into it.

BTW...James is in a position where he is expected to agree with your review anyway, because he is also a reviewer for this site....although he did say that he would have given it 4 stars. I am not disagreeing with your review - just asking for a better critique.

If it is all about star rating, then why do you waste your timing typing. Also, it has nothing to do with me being happy, but has everything to do with a review being a review and not an explanation of the project.

Chris D. Unthank's avatar James is under no obligation to agree with - we have disagreed many times on multiple projects and made it known in the comments section.

My point is Bass - it's NOT all about the star rating. YOU are the one making it a big deal about the star rating - about a half star nonetheless.

I'm sorry you don't like the review. I've not liked many a review that I've read in my time.
