One evening, as a teen, I was inspired to write my first song. I sat alone in my room, watching and listening as it stormed outside. I was afraid of storms, but felt safe in the shelter of our home.
I thought about God’s creatures out in that weather. I pictured the little birds in their nests with their parents hovering over them to keep them safe and dry. I was reminded of one of my favorite passages of scripture Psalm 91. It paints a picture of God’s great Wing protecting His children during the storms of life.
Though I was young, I had some trials of my own - times that made me run for the shelter of God’s wing. I realized it had been during the storms that I had gotten closer to my Lord. I determined that if I’d focus on this wonderful relationship with Him, I could always find the beauty in the rain.
Beauty in the Rain
Vs. 1 Looking through my window, on a dark and stormy night
I watch with awe as streaks of lightening flash across the sky
In the midst of the loud and roaring thunder,
I can hear my Father’s song
In the music of the raindrops there’s a quiet, peaceful calm
Chorus Lord, please help me see the beauty in the rain
And when it’s dark and cloudy, help me never to complain
I long to see a rainbow, but while the skies are gray
Please, help me see the beauty in the rain
Vs. 2 Noah saw a rainbow at the end of the flood
A vision of the promise God had given on that day
In storms of life, when our faith grows dim
We can still depend on Him
For God to send a rainbow, it takes a little rain
Tag When storms are raging ‘round me, Your presence I can feel
In the quiet shelter of Your wing, I find Your Love so real
This must be the beauty in the rain
