HisSong
HisSong is a unique name. Tell us a little about how you came to decide on the name HisSong? How did you come to the idea of spelling it the way it is?
Dennis Humphries: We had thought of several names. I was thinking out loud and said "We are singing His Songs" and it clicked. So that's how the name HisSong came about. I know to some the name may be incorrectly spelled but I felt it would make the name stand out a little more. We do have people that spell the name with two words but thats ok, either way it is still HisSong.
How do you describe the sound of HisSong?
Adam Elrod: I feel we have a distinctive sound with tight harmony. We strive to be the best we can be and the more we sing with each other the more we know each others vocals. I feel like God has blessed us with great harmonies.
You have a new member? Tell us a little about him.
Dennis Humphries: The newest member is 19 yrs old from Marion, Illinois. His name is Adam Cannon. It has always been his dream to travel with a full time southern gospel group. He just finished College a week before he joined HisSong but he felt he would be doing something different with his career singing full time.
Where did you find him?
Dennis Humphries: I was searching on the Singing News website Baritone Position wanted. I interviewed several people. I asked him to come to Kentucky where we was singing on a Sunday night. Our record producer, Wayne Haun, had been filling in for a few weeks. Before the concert, Wayne sat at the Piano and the 3 of us sang a song with Adam taking lead then switched where he would sing harmony. The blend was really good even though he had not sang with us before. I went ahead and auditioned a couple more people but kept going back to Adam Cannon. He went with us to Texas and everyone loved him and his singing and I hired him that weekend.
Will the addition of a new member change the sound of he group?
Dennis Humphries: The sound hasn't changed at all other than on his Solo parts but we have had nothing but GREAT comments about our sound and his singing.
What is your new project like?
Dennis Humphries: Our new project is most definitely the best we have ever recorded. The material is outstanding with some of Gospel Music's best known writers. We used a full Orchestra from the City of Prague and this was incredible. Our Producer, Wayne Haun, and Engineer, Kevin Ward, outdid themselves.
What song would each of you say is the best song that HisSong has ever recorded?
Adam Elrod: I would have to say a song from our new project called “i’m Still On His Mind” & “Watching & Waiting.”
Dennis: I know Adam already said this song but I will have to agree with him. It’s amazing the response we get from the audience "I’m Still On His Mind.” I would also have to say “look At Me, I’m His Latesr Miracle” and “it Won’t Be A Celebration.”
Adam Cannon: I have only been with the group for a couple months but I really like the song "No Graves for Flowers."
Who is the primary target of any audience that you sing to? Does your program reach everyone?
Dennis Humphries: Our audience reaches people of all ages. Our attendance with the young people has also grown over the past few months. That's one reason I love this new project so much. We have songs that the young people love, we have songs that the middle and older generation love so we are reaching a big variety of people at our concerts
If each member of HisSong could only sing one more song and never sing again, what would that song be? Why?
Adam: "I’m Still On His Mind" because the song lyrically speaks to me and the ones who hear it.
Dennis Humphries: It would have to be “i’m Still On His Mind.” We take for granted sometimes that Jesus Christ prays for us every single day and we are always on his mind. We have never regreted singing any of the songs.
What is the one thing you want said about HisSong 30 years from now?
Dennis Humphries: I want people to look back and say, I was saved during a HisSong concert or by listening to one of their songs or I was in depression but heard the testimony at the end of the service and God touched me. I also want people to look back and say, these Men were anointed and they lived what they sang about.
