Winning the 2005 Gospel Music Fan Festival Talent Contest contest last July was just the beginning for this likeable group. Their self titled project is a pleasant surprise for a group's first attempt. The harmonies soar on the first cut, a beloved hymn, "I Sing The Mighty Power Of God."

"Table Of The King" picks up the pace ever so slightly, setting you up for the next tune "Let my God work it out." I thoroughly enjoyed this song. With a great message, a catchy hook and a happy rhythm you can't help but tap your feet and start singing along.

Squire Parsons has 3 cuts on this project, insuring some good songwriting on the record. The upbeat tune I just spoke about and two others. "There's A Miracle For Me" and "Jesus Gave Me A Song." The latter of which I personally preferred. I have to say that Family Legacy did a great job of song selection. Their entire album is very well balanced. I didn't feel that it dragged on with too many ballads or that it had no depth with too many fast numbers.

Steve Lacey contributed 4 songs to the project. "I'm Glad I Know" reminded me of something the Cathedrals would have done. Gotta love that music! Eric Vertrees the trio's male vocalist does a great job on "Should Jesus come today." It turned out to be one of my favorites. "Speak That Wonderful Name" was enjoyable, but "God's Grace Is Sufficient" is the song that really caught my attention. Eric has a lot of emotion in his voice and really connects with the listener through his vocals. I thought it was a great note to end the album on. It left me with a good last impression of Family Legacy. Smart move guys!

"Hand of God" featured Family Legacy's alto who's voice I enjoyed, and would have liked to have heard featured a little more. "Tempted, Tested and Tried" was a blue grass tinged tune that was contributed by the groups producer Jason Brooks. It has an interesting melody, and was a good changeup. Overall I was really happy with my listening experience of Family Legacy.

The worst thing about the album was the cover of the cd. It didn't appear to be a high quality photo, and I'm not sure that the group realized that it was going to be the first impression that people have of them. Whether we like it or not, we are a visually driven society, and the cover of a cd is a small space to catch someone's eye and make them want to buy your cd.

What I really appreciate about this group is that they are traditional without being boring. I think that they have nothing but good things to look forward to. This is an unusually high point to start at for a first project, and I hope to hear more from them in the future.

I'm glad to see the review of this cd. I've had it for a year or more and have really enjoyed it. All three vocals are very good and the harmony is really tight. Not only can these folk sing, they are very sweet people to work with. Eric has been singing for many, many years with the Veterans Qt. and had several songs on the charts before. He has a nice voice with a range that allows him to sing with the ladies as well as with a male quartet. I wish only the best for Family Legacy. It's great to see such nice people get some recognition for their hard work.

We have sung with Family Legacy in community sings in Kentucky, and they are a fantastic group. Eric Vertrees is a man of integrity who has his heart in the right spot. I wish this great group all the best.
