Shiloh Quartet - Jesus Knows Who I Am
Produced by Woody Wright and Shiloh Quartet I had a surprise when the first song comes on when listening to this CD. It was a pleasant surprise, but none the less a surprise. The last time I reviewed a Shiloh Quartet, they were a very traditional quartet, but on this CD, and I'm sure that it is from the influence of producer Woody Wright, they have developed a very good "country" sound. By this I don't mean a twangy sound, but a modern country group sound, much like an Alabama sound. They have opened a door to take their music to a wealth of places with this sound. The sound is probably most noticebly dramatic by changing the tracks from the standard Southern Gospel sound to the modern country sound. On their previous recordings, Shiloh Quartet has always had great harmony and blend vocally, so that hasn't changed at all. The song selection is interesting to say the least, but there's some great material on this CD. Opening with "Glory Train" you get that modern country feel that I was talking about and it sets the mood for the entire project. "Love Is Like A River," their current radio release, was previously cut on one of the Gaither Memphis Homecoming CDs, but these guys do a terrific job on it. They were careful to pick some old, as well as new, songs. Bass singer Stanley Luce does a really nice job on the old song "Then I Met Jesus." It would also appear that Mark Lowery has covered the Shiloh Quartet on his current radio release, "I Want To Go To Heaven," written by producer Woody Wright. It must be a good cut if Mark picked it up from them. "Jesus Knows Who I Am" is a toe tapper that will have you singing to it before you know it. Tenor Brian White does a really nice job on the soft and pretty ballad "I Know He's Real." This one is a real worshipful song. Other songs include "I Will Follow You," Bread Of Life," and "He Didn't Have To Do It But He Did." They close the CD out in style with the old classic "Heavenly Parade." The treat about this cut is that they perform it a capella. All in all, you will not be disappointed when you buy this CD. You can expect a very classy sound when you buy this CD. Reader Comments"Jesus Knows Who I Am" is my fav on the CD. Don't know why I love this song so much, but I will listen to it several times before I move on to the rest of the CD. "His Love is Like a River" and "He Didn't Have to Do it But He Did" are but two other songs I enjoy as well. I love the meaning behind their cover shot. Love the thought process behind it.
