The Hoppers - Great Day
Often times, coming off a really good recording, it is hare to out do the last performance. Not so with this new CD release by the Hoppers. This is no doubt one of the biggest sounding CDs that the Hoppers have ever put out, and it has some great sounds on it. It starts out with a very nice rendition of the old hymn “I Sing The Mighty Power”. This just sets the mood for entire project. There is also a very nice cover of the Carol Roberson song “She Found Jesus Alive”. They give it an extra flair that I haven’t heard on any other recordings of this song. You will need about two boxes of Kleenex as you listen to a heart-rending performance by Connie on “See How She Loves Him”, a song of how strong the love between a man and wife are even through the terrible circumstance of Alzheimers. There are some really good songs on here that I would like to see go to radio, including “Great Day In The Morning”, “God Is Good’, “I Call You Faithful”, and “Jerusalem.” The first three are nice upbeat songs that are always great for radio, but “Jerusalem” is a song that has taken the Hoppers a step further than they have ever been. Even though the track starts out reminiscent to the Lion King sound track and you keep waiting for this big lion roar, it sets the environment for the rest of the song. You are waiting in anticipation for the song, and you are not disappointed. This song is sure to have people out of their seats at concerts, but it may also be hard to keep your car on the road while listening to this at drive time. “We Are America” is a nice patriotic song, which is always appropriate in this time we live in. It is nice to see Spring Hill using a lot of patriotic material with their artists. Other songs include “Child Of God”, “Going Home Forever”, and “Look For Me Around The Throne”.

I heard the demo of this cd on the Hoppers website...it sounds fantastic. I especially like the uptempo numbers. I'm sure one of more of them will top the charts.

As I sit here listening to this CD for the second time. All I can say is WOW! This project is unlike anything I have ever heard the Hopper's put out. it is if you will a Buffet of musical styles. You have everything from patriotic ballad, to praise
and worship, to recitation, to musical theatre style. There is something for everyone to enjoy. I was not sure how to rate this CD at first but I have to agree with Deon deffinte 5 stars!

I have to say...this is a literal musical masterpiece. I don't know if I'll call it my fav Hoppers CD (I am still VERY partial to their "Power" CD), it ranks with the best.
One observation is they seem to have featured a little more of Connie on this recording than in previous ones. I like that. One thing...I think this recording marks the first recitation by Connie. "She How She Loves Him" will definitely get you a little misty eyed. Connie is such a gem. "Jerusalem"...what can I say than it's a BIG song. Musically...it's huge. I wonder if they can exude the same massive feelings on stage with this song like they do in the studio? Excellent review, and definitely 5 stars!

Like James, I'm not sure if the Hoppers will ever top _Power_.
My Top 7 so far for the year, in order, are . . . 1. Greater Vision _Quartets_ 2. Gold City _Walk The Talk_ 3. Booth Brothers _self titled_ 4. Signature Sound _Stand By Me_ 5. Hoppers _Great Day_ 6. Perrys _This Is The Day_ 7. Crabb Family _The Walk_ I rated all of the above as either 5 or 4 1/2 stars. If I were as liberal with stars as James and Deon, I'd give _Great Day_ 5 of them, but to be consistent with myself and previous ratings I've given, I have to go with 4 1/2. It's a great CD, and it's in good company. One or two songs seemed out of place with the overall direction of the project, but that's the only complaint I have. My favorite cut is "She Found Jesus Alive." Lari Goss arranged that song for a choral project Mike Speck put together for the Easter 2003 season. The Hoppers' version pretty much matches the same arrangement. My church choir enjoys singing it.

I think "Jerusalem" has to be the biggest song that The Hoppers has ever done.
I love it, but this is coming from someone who enjoys the progressive.

Wow! What a CD. I would have to say that that I think this is their best so far. They have made some great albums and CDs over the years, but this project takes them to a higher level of quality than they have ever been.
Great songs, great vocals, great production!
