Mark Bishop - “The Song in My Heart”
Offering his sophomore release as a soloist, Mark Bishop continues the Bishop musical tradition, which began almost 20 years ago. Mark doesn’t really offer any surprises here, as Mark presents a nice array of songs, written by and done in Mark’s usual fashion. Mark Bishop fans will not be disappointed as he literally pours his heart and soul into each and every song. For those seeking a blessing from the Lord, ”SEND IT” is a prayer in song to the Lord to just send it! This is a nice easygoing tune to start things off. Mark is an expert at writing tender ballads that pull on your heart strings and ”YOU WERE WORKING FOR ME”, ”THE SON OF A CARPENTER”, and “I REMEMBER HER WELL” are all excellent songs and are three of the more memorable songs on this recording. ”WHEN JESUS SAW INSIDE OF ME,” reminds us of the love Christ had for us. After all, He looked far beyond all our faults and failures and “He saw something no one else could see”, and saw a life worth dying for and saving. The song from whence the title of this recording comes from is the jolly ”LET JESUS BE THE SONG IN YOUR HEART.” This is a blissfully contagious number that reminds me of the classic Frank Sinatra tune called “Without a Song.” This pleasant song will no doubt be a concert favorite, as will “HE DID,” which is a fantastic song of encouragement reminding us though we never gave a thought about the need for salvation for lost man, He did. Thank God for that! ”CLOUD NINE, HEADED FOR TEN” is the latest in feel good songs and runs in the similar vein as the hit song for CrossWay called “Walk on Water Kind of Day”. Though comparable, this is still a very enjoyable song and should do quite well for Mark. One of the most unusual songs I think Mark has ever written is ”GOD JUST ANSWERED ANOTHER PRAYER.” Relaying stories of where God heard and answered prayer, this song is one that you’ll keep coming back to. Mark even cleverly stuck the title of his signature tune “You Can’t Ask too Much of My God” on the tail end of the song. Another song about prayer, ”JUST ONE PRAYER AWAY” brings the recording to a mellow and reflective close. I must confess, I loved Mark’s first recording, “Faith, Family & Friends”, but this one kind of lacks the excitement of his first one. It is an excellent recording, no matter how you look at it, but something’s missing. One let down is there are no eccentric parodies or novelty songs. I missed that! I was anxiously waiting to see what words of wisdom Mark might impart in his unique ability in writing novelty songs. But none were to be found. But, this is an outstanding recording, nonetheless. Mark, in the last several years, has really come out to be an exceptional songwriter, and definitely has a style all his own. He writes from the heart, and you can tell it. Mark writes on a level few writers write, and it can only get better! Thanks Mark, for once again allowing us to hear the song in your heart. Personal Favs: THE SON OF A CARPENTER; LET JESUS BE THE SONG IN YOUR HEART; CLOUD NINE, HEADED FOR TEN; GOD JUST ANSWERED ANOTHER PRAYER; I REMEMBER HER WELL
