Jeff O’Neal of Heritage Communications announced today that The Shaffers, a mixed family quartet from Belington, W. Va., has scored its first Top 80 song. “Calvary Changed My Destiny,” an original song from the group’s newest CD by the same name, debuted on the February Singing News Chart at number 62.
The group consists of Dave Shaffer, his wife Trish, their daughter Cassie and her husband Mike Hymes. After spending several years singing in the local area, The Shaffers have expanded their ministry across the country. The group entered a talent competition in Franklin, Tenn., and took first place in the Southern Gospel division from a field of more than 80 groups. They subsequently took part at the 2004 National Quartet Convention in Louisville, Ky.
“This is a great song,” said O’Neal. It has been out a relatively short time and has been really well-received by radio.”
“We are excited at what God is doing in our lives,” said Dave Shaffer. “He has really begun opening doors for our ministry.”
