The Statler Brothers - Amen
“A Place On Calvary” opens the CD. This upbeat number will have your toes to tapping, but don’t let the beat of the song turn you from hearing the message portrayed in the song. Honestly, on this song, as well as on the whole CD, Bass singer Harold Reid does some really nice LOW down Bass singing. The Red Back Hymnal “classic” has a unique arrangement, yet “Hide Thou Me” has a nice country flair to it also. Not only do they show their singing talents on this CD, but also their writing abilities too. Working together like the true team that they are, Don Reid and Jimmy Fortune put the pen to several songs. Harold joins Don and Jimmy on doing much of the arranging also. “It Might Be Jesus”, “A Living Part Of You”, and “God Saw My Need” were all written by Don Reid. Jimmy Fortune is featured on the up tempo song he wrote. This song, “He’s Getting’ Me Ready” would be a great radio release. Several of the songs were written by second generation “Statlers”. Kim, Debo, Wil, and Langdon Reid all did some impressive writing on this CD. “Keep Your Eyes On Jesus” written by Langdon and Wil, is a great traditional quartet song. Oh, yea, by the way, The Statlers do a fantastic traditional quartet performance on the song also. Langdon Reid also penned a powerful ballad with a message of hope in “Jesus Living Next To Me” “If It Only Took A Baby” would be a neat Christmas cut, but it fits this album well too. Other great songs on this CD include “Far Side Of The Banks”, “When I Take My Vacation In Heaven”, and “I Should Have Known You Lord”.

THIS TIME THE BOYS HAVE REALLY GONE AND "DONE IT" WITH THIS CD. IT IS THEIR MOST POWERFUL ONE YET. ALL I LISTEN TO THESE DAYS ARE GOSPEL QUARTETS AND IT IS A HONOR TO HAVE "AMEN" IN MY COLLECTION.I LOVE SONGS THAT CAN TOUCH YOUR HEART AND THESE WILL.

I have to say, to be honest, I was less than impressed with this CD. I have always been a Statler Brothers fan. I love their music, so my feeling do not stem from a dislike for the group. I thought many of the songs on this CD (not all) were very shallow in meaning. Not a lot of depth to the songs. Granted, comparing to the Oaks gospel CD where some of the songs could be taken a different way, I still thought the Oaks CD was better. I was just expecting more from the Statlers than what they offered.

This is one of the finest gospel CD's ever put together by any vocal group. The richness of the sound, the emotional quality of the tunes, and the amazing harmony of the Statlers are what make this CD so fantastic! It does not matter if you have been a fan since they started in the 60's or if this is ther first time you have gave them a listen, you will be rewarded with a CD you will cherish forever! Congrats to the Statlers for continuing their high quality musical tradition that has lasted almost 40 years!
