HisSong Ministers at a Kentucky Prison

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Cross and Crown Records recording artist, HisSong, ministered at a prison in western Kentucky on Sunday, July 25, 2004. HisSong was invited by the prison Chaplain to sing for an hour and half concert. The event was the first time that HisSong had ever ministered in the prison environment.

The ministry time was attended by over 130 inmates.

“The group was introduced to the stage and it sound like a ball game as these men were more than ready to hear some southern gospel music,” said Dennis Humphries of HisSong.

Dennis continues, “We began singing on our first song and the inmates began to clap there hands and some even raised there hands. It was an amazing feeling to be able to see the lives that were changed. After the third song, we began to sing a song from our brand new project, ‘It Was Real When God Saved My Soul’. We began to see tears streaming down faces. It truly touched HisSong as well.”

Dennis says, “I looked over at Gary [Winningham] and tears were streaming down his face. I then looked at Adam [Elrod] and tears were streaming down his face as well. The Holy Spirit was definitely in that place. We finished the song and every person stood to there feet clapping there hands wanting more of the song. We encored the entire song and it was amazing how God was moving in that place.”

”The last song we sang was an old song that we grew up in church singing all our lives that we have rerecorded on our new album called ‘God Leads His Dear Children’. We noticed that men all over the concert hall were crying and some had their faces in their hands crying uncontrollably. God was truly ministering to them,” recalled Dennis.

”In the middle of the song, we began to hear the inmates sing along with us and on the last chorus all of them stood to there feet with a standing ovation,” said Humphries. “We knew it was the right time to give the invitation. As the music was playing softly in the background, I gave my testimony. I gave the invitation for those who were lost and would like to make the decision to follow Christ. Many hands were raised. We then instructed those who raised their hands to come forward for prayer. Almost every single person in the place came forward making an altar. Over 30 people gave there hearts and lives to Jesus Christ that day.”

Dennis says, “God has called the three of us to minister, and we have seen so many people saved and many lives changed. This time in the prison shows us that we are going to continue to see that.”

After the concert at the prison, HisSong was asked to sing at the Death row Prison in March of 2005.

HisSong is made up of Dennis Humphries, Gary Winningham and Adam Elrod.
