Kinston, NC - Dixie Melody Boys' owner and upcoming 2004 Southern Gospel Music Hall of Fame inductee, Ed O'Neal, has announced the resignation of long-time Dixie Melody Boys' pianist, Eric Ollis. The resignation of Ollis, who has been with The Dixie Melody Boys for nearly 15 years, will be
effective August 1.
"Ollis has been a great asset to The Dixie Melody Boys over the years," O'Neal stated. "His decision is truly amicable. He's making this decision to benefit his family, and I totally respect that. We'll definitely miss him and wish him all the best."
This amicable decision O'Neal refers to will allow Ollis to move his family to Morganton, NC. Ollis explains the reason for the move. "A few years ago my youngest son, Michael, was diagnosed as being autistic. It's been a real challenge for us trying to find facilities in Eastern North Carolina, where we live, which can help him. The Western Carolina Center in Morganton is one of the top two best schools in the country specifically designed to assist autistic kids.
"I'm definitely going to miss Ed and the guys," Ollis continues. "Ed has treated me great over the years, and I never imagined leaving him and The Dixie Melody Boys. Honestly, this has been one of the most difficult decisions I have ever had to make, but I know it's the right one. I know this move will be good for my family, and I'm thrilled that Michael will be able to work with people who will really be able to help him."
According to O'Neal, The Dixie Melody Boys will not pursue a replacement pianist. "We plan to continue with the four-part, quartet harmony The Dixie Melody Boys have been singing for over 40 years," states O'Neal.
The Dixie Melody Boys recently released their debut recording from Seraphim Music Group, "A Seat In The Heavenly Choir," and their current single, "I've Gotta Cloud," is playing at radio stations nationwide.
