Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver - A School of Bluegrass
![]() Distributed By: Crossroads Music A School Of Bluegrass is not your typical 25th anniversary greatest hits compilation. Instead of simply including previous recordings of hit songs, this project features a series of live performances and alternate arrangements of songs that Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver have performed over the last 25 years. The master recordings of these songs were not made in a studio, but rather were recorded either during one of the band's rehearsal sessions or during a live concert. The songs are arranged on the 2 disc set in chronological order and the project includes a nice booklet with a comment from Lawson about each song. The picking on the project is superb. The vocals are okay, but the instrumentals are definitely the highlight of this project. Quicksilver fans will be interested in hearing the musical nuances as the group members change from the beginning of the project to the end. Regardless of the personnel, the music is first-rate bluegrass. Fans of Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver as well as fans of gospel bluegrass will want to add this project to their collection. Songs: Disk 1 - Mississippi Queen, Come on Over, Just a Little Talk With Jesus, Prince of My Peace, Little Community Church, Train '45, On the Sea of Life, Carolina in the Pines, Jezebel, You'll Never Be the Same, I'll Take the Blame, Sally Goodin', Every Time I Feel the Spirit, Leather Britches, Come Back to Me in My Dreams, My Walking Shoes, Til the End, Stormy Waters, Up on the Blue Ridge, I Know the Way to You by Heart, Ezekiel Saw the Wheel, Northern Lights, Polka on the Banjo, If You See My Savior, Little Black Moustache Disc 2 - Florida Blues, Sweetheart You Done Me Wrong, Move to the Top of the Mountain, North Carolina Breakdown, Little Mountain Church House, Tennessee Banjo Man, Mighty Number, Careless Love, Lay Your Burdens at His Feet, Big Country, Your Crazy Heart, Write Me Sweetheart, Rock of Ages Keep My Soul, Heartbreak Insurance, Praise His Name, Prayer Is a Wonderful Gift from God, Far Above the Starry Sky, I Feel Happy in My Soul Today, Peace in My Savior's Love, Amber Tresses, Twinkle Little Star, Go Rest High, Julie Ann Come on Home, Dailey's Reel, Girl from West Virginia Reader CommentsThis is NOT a gospel project. Granted, there are Gospel songs on it, (22 by my count), but there are more SECULAR songs on it, (28 by my count). In my opinion it just really didn't seem like it belonged on a Southern Gospel website. It definately isn't Southern Gospel, and it's not really even Gospel, it's mostly secular bluegrass. ****Disclaimer***** This comment is in no way form or fashion an insult or "dig" to the owners of SGN. I have the utmost respect for them and their site. It is not meant to say what they should or should not put on their site. It is simply a personal "opinion".
