Groups pop up out of nowhere all the time. Many of them blow in, blow up and blow out. It takes something special to keep a group going. It takes the hand of God upon their lives and ministry and a love to do what they know God has called them to do. "We don't have the best voices, we don't have the most money, but we do have a determination to do it and a love for the Lord to do it and a thankfulness that we can do it," says group member Terry Mills. Consisting of Karen Winston, Terry Mills and Kimmie Worthington, these ladies are excited about the path God has set before them. Karen, who serves as the group's manager says, "We all feel we are following God's will and that's what we want. We work with each other to make this happen and we enjoy each other's company. I've never been a part of the group that has as much harmony off stage as we do on stage." Kimmie continues, "I feel that for the first time in my life, I am doing exactly what God wants me to do. There is no doubt He put me in this group." You can tell just by talking with these ladies that they are excited and ready to go and ready to do whatever the Lord has for them.

Though only been singing together for a little more than 7 months, Karen shares how the Lord has blessed them and confirmed His calling upon them. "We didn't have a single piece of equipment when we started. We had an old Ross 8 channel powered board that was probably 40 yrs old and that was all we owned. Thank God we ended up not having to use that! But the Lord just rained down on us. We have all the things we ever wanted in equipment and the Lord even provided us with a sound person through one of my best friends, Karen Ray." Kimmie continues, "He's given us all the bookings we've needed. When we started we just wanted to do 2 weekends a month and God has more than supplied the bookings we need."

One interesting thing to note is how these ladies all met. Karen says, "Through the SoGospelNews.com email chat list I met Terry and our sound person, Karen Ray. Karen Ray and myself actually went to high school together and graduated together and neither one of us knew one another!" Terry picks up the story, "How we got together is almost like a puzzle that God has put together. The first time I ever met Karen in person was at a singing back a little over a year or so ago. In fact it was just after I had joined the Stilleys. After we sang, Bernice Stilley, who was also a SoGospelNews list member, introduced me to Karen. Now Kimmie and I have known each seemingly forever. We go to the same church together and everything. Eventually, this group came into being because the Stilleys needed to fill a spot for a singer who needed to come off the road and the first person that popped in my mind was Karen. I look back on that now and know that was just another piece of the puzzle. When we decided to leave the Stilleys and go on our own to form Yielded, Kimmie was the first person that came to mind."

Though their name is somewhat unusual, there is a story behind it. Karen states, "I had been through a really bad time in my life and I had rededicated my life back to the Lord. I had written a song a long time ago called "I'll Yield to the Call." That was how I felt after I got my life straightened back out. I know I am supposed to sing and I wanted to yield to that call upon my life."

As a new group, Yielded faces many challenges. One challenge is setting yourself apart from other groups and having your own identity or niche. You have to have something that sets you apart from everyone else. When asked what people can expect at a concert with Yielded, Karen says, "Coming to hear us is like having some friends over in your living room to sing. We don't act any more reserved in concert, than we do if we visit our friends, because we see the people we minister to as our friends and we treat the situation in just that way. People come up to us and tell us how different we are from other groups because we just act like we already know everybody and we treat them as our friends when we sing. And that's a major compliment to us." An additional compliment paid to these ladies is they have been compared to the legendary Andrews Sisters. Karen says, "That's actually a great compliment because the Andrews Sisters had perfect harmony and they sounded beautiful. We really like the fact the people have compared us to them. Terry liked it so much that Terry took a picture of the Andrews Sisters and superimposed our faces with the pictures."

One thing that I find noteworthy is that the other 2 weekends a month they do not travel and sing, you will find all these ladies not just attending, but being actively involved in their home churches. Kimmie and Terry attend West Vanceboro Church of God in Vanceboro, North Carolina, while Karen attends Hillsborough Church of God in Hillsborough.

With Yielded, you get much more than just a blonde, a brunette and a red head. What you see is what you get, down home singing and some of the best harmony this side of Heaven. But more important than that, these ladies know the hand of God is upon them and they are thankful for what God has allowed them accomplish. From singing at the North Carolina State Fair to Nashville, Tennessee, from starting with virtually nothing to traveling with all the necessities a traveling group needs to recording their first CD after only being together for 4 months. Yes, God has blessed them indeed. These ladies have yielded to the Call, and they are reaping the benefits!

I agree, these girls can sing. They have awsome harmony, and when the shoes come off, look out. We sang with Yeilded at the So. gospel news annual concert last year in Smyrna. Tn, and was really impressed.
