Southern Gospel USA To Sponsor Broadcaster Awards
Gary Wilson, producer and host of the Southern Gospel USA Countdown Show announces the establishment of the Southern Gospel USA Broadcaster Awards. The initial awards ceremony will be held during the week of the 2004 National Quartet Convention in Louisville, Kentucky.
Wilson explains, "I feel that radio is taken for granted too often and believe it is time to recognize the efforts of the men and women who perform such a valuable service for our industry. These awards will be unique in the fact that entrants will not have to sell anything, buy anything or join any organization to participate. They will submit an air check, but just as important will be information regarding their promotion of Southern Gospel music in their area. Entries will be accepted from any Southern Gospel DJ and judged on merit by a panel of radio and industry professionals. Judging criteria will be announced at a later date.
The Southern Gospel USA Countdown Show is now broadcast on 58 affiliates in the United States and Canada. Wilson also produces a non-commercial version of the program, especially for the American Forces Radio Network which is broadcast in over 175 countries worldwide. The show is based on weekly chart information received from radio stations, coast to coast. In addition to his radio work, Wilson also provides a weekly website for radio personnel called The Media Kit. The Media Kit contains the current weekly chart, Southern Gospel news and show prep for DJ's, free of charge.
