“Three Wooden Crosses,” the latest from Randy Travis on Heritage Gold Vol. 35, has put this country singer solidly on the Gospel charts. Randy is known for singing story songs, and this one, written by Doug Johnson and Kim Williams, makes a great story. It’s about three roadside crosses that represent a farmer, a teacher, and a preacher who all die in a bus accident. The fourth passenger on the bus, a hooker, lives and as the preacher breathes his last, he presses his Bible into her hands. Her son, who is now a preacher himself, tells the story: “He gave this Bible to my mama, who read it to me….”
The song, from Randy’s Gospel album Rise and Shine is not only being played and well-received on Southern Gospel radio, but on Country radio as well, and it has become the first song recorded on a Gospel label (Word) to hit No. 1 on the Country charts.
“We are excited to be a part of what God is doing with this legendary artist,” said Heritage Communications’ Jeff O’Neal. “He is using Randy to reach people beyond the scope of Southern Gospel radio, and take His message to the world.”
