Nashville, TN - The Southern Gospel Music Guild is pleased to announce the formation of the SGMG Harmony Awards. The new awards will be entirely derived from the Southern Gospel Music Industry and will pay honor to those music individuals, groups and companies that help enhance this genre of Gospel Music. SGMG President Clarke Beasley said, "these awards will complement the Singing News Fan Awards, in that the fan awards measure fan popularity, however the Harmony Awards will be industry professionals recognizing what they believe to be excellence in our field."
The Harmony Awards will be launched in May of 2003 with a listing of 15 categories; they are:

The SGMG Executive Board along with the full body membership is gearing up for the nomination ballots to be mailed the first week of March. Prior to the actual awards production finale that is set for May 12, 2003, there will be a total of three different mailings to accommodate the entire balloting and voting process. According to the SGMG By-Laws, Guild Professional Membership is limited to 5 memberships per company. This helps insure the credibility of the new awards and not favor larger companies over smaller companies. The SGMG will be turning over the tabulation process to an independent accounting firm, in order to assure an unbiased and accurate count. The results of the tabulation will remain confidential with that agency until the actual awards ceremony. In order to be eligible to vote, a person must be a SGMG Member prior to February 28, 2003.
