Daywind Music Publishing hosted its third annual Songwriters’ Showcase recently at the Belmont Mansion in Nashville, Tennessee.
“It’s simply a time for the industry to come together and hear tomorrow’s hits as the songwriter interprets them,” Daywind’s Wayne Haun said.
Gerald Crabb, Kyla Rowland, Gina Vera, Jerry Salley, Bev Lowry, Marty Funderburk, Wayne Haun, Pamela Furr, Joe Johnston, Eulalia King, and Mike Richards presented their latest works in front of a standing room only crowd. Guest included everyone from radio DJs, booking agents, publications, artists, record label executives and admiring family members.
Other industry writers like Dee Gaskin, Niles Borop, Belinda Smith, Joel Guinness, Sue Smith and Twila LaBar supported their co-writers by being in the audience.
One evening highlight included a visit by Savana Foust (“Somebody Touched Me”, “Blood Washed Band”) via mobile telephone to hear Marty Funderburk sing her newest hit. Gerald Crabb had several in tears with his rendition of new song “You Wouldn’t Know Me Now” while Kyla Rowland elicited a standing ovation for “That’s All That Matters”.
This event in previous years was the first place hits such as “Through The Fire” and “Safe Thus Far” were ever heard.
"There’s no doubt that the songs presented this year will be heard on the mass market in the coming year,” Daywind’s Brian Copeland said.
Calls and interest in next year’s event are already starting; so, it’s safe to say the industry can look forward to another great night in 2003.
