The Rudds come to us from Portage, IN. Over the last few years, they have garnered some notice among Southern Gospel circles. Their new project, Making Plans, is filled with some great new original songs from the members of this fine family group.

“Joy, Joy, Joy” kicks the project off and is a hand clapper and fun song written by Amy and James Rudd. “They All Knew Me There” has a country feel to it. This song, penned by Naomi Rudd, tells of a dream of what Heaven will be like. The song features Naomi on the lead vocals

James Rudd has written a nice three quarter time song, “I Found Love” and he is also featured on the song. “The Old Way” features Amy on lead vocals. This song has an ‘80’s Country flavor to it. Amy once again is featured on a song written by Naomi Rudd, “Making Plans”. This is one of the strongest songs on the project and could do well for them on radio.

“Home” is a ballad that features the father of the group, Rodney Rudd. It was good to hear the song written by Aaron Wilburn and producer Eddie Crook, “That Sounds like Home to Me”. This song, made famous by Vestal Goodman, is a classic. The Rudds stay true to the song but Amy adds her own touch to it. “Squire Parson” has written a great song, “King of Eternity”. This song starts out with some nice ensemble work and then Amy does a bang up job on the second verse. This song is a highlight of the project.

Naomi Rudd is once again featured on “Over the Mountain”. This touching ballad is done well. They close the project out with another song from the pen of Naomi Rudd, “There is a Place”. This song is a quartet style song. This song is a nice song but is one of the weaker vocal attempts on the album. It is a departure from the rest of the album stylistically.

If you enjoy groups like the McKameys and Spencers, you will enjoy the Rudds. This family group does a good job singing the Country Gospel style songs. Make sure to check out their website to find out how you can get your copy.
