Safely Anchored
I know that I recently reviewed Safely Anchored on their CD, so I just decided I’d go ahead review the video too. Wow, am I glad that I did. While I thought their CD was great, they have captured something on video that just adds something special to hearing them. Not only do they have some of the closest harmony that you will ever hear, Ray Mahaffey may just be one of the most under-rated Tenors in the Southern Gospel Music industry. He’s not just high, but he is quality when he’s way up there. Not to be overlooked, Cody Mahaffey is an excellent Baritone also. While definitely the prettiest one of the group, Vanessa Mahaffey does a great job singing the Lead-Soprano spot too. This Video has a nice blend of new and original material and yet covers some great old classic hymns of the church. They do some very neat arranging on some of the old songs, and also sing a few of them in the beautiful form that they were written in. Though I am a real proponent of using concept videos where possible, because concert videos sometimes leave something to be desired, Safely Anchored did go to a lot of trouble to decorate the stage, so that it did not appear to be just another concert at another church. I enjoyed hearing how the name of the group came about, and now knowing that their late father had something to do with is makes it even more special. I really liked “When We Sing Around The Throne”, “Safely Anchored To The Cross”, “He’ll Do It Again”, and “Up And Gone”. Other songs included and which they also do a splendid job on are “Whatever You Need, God Is”, “Hand Of Justice”, “I Feel Like Traveling On”, “Only For A Season” a beautiful solo performed by Vanessa, an a capella arrangement of “Amazing Grace”, and a choir backed rendition of “I’m Redeemed”. Southern Gospel Music could use more top notch videos like this one.

This is an awesome CD, and the songs are all wonderful. But even better than listening to it at home is to listen to them in person. Their harmonies are just as tight, voices are just as good, if not better! If you have any doubts about the purchase, let me just say GO BUY IT!!!! You can get it at their website (not sure of address offhand, but look for Safely Anchored through a search engine!). They are a wonderful group who need your prayers & support! Occupy Till I Come is my favorite, with Once for All a close 2nd!
