Randy Travis Records Country Gospel Album With Word Records
(Nashville, Tenn.) August 12, 2002 -- On October 1st country superstar Randy Travis will release his first album for Word Records.
Titled Rise and Shine, the album will feature thirteen songs of faith, each one performed and six of them co-written by the celebrated singer.
Titles on Rise and Shine include "Raise Him Up," "Rise And Shine," "When Mama Prayed," "I'm Ready," "Three Wooden Crosses," "That's Jesus," "Pray For the Fish," "Jerusalem's Cry," "If You Only Knew," "Everywhere We Go," "The Gift," "Keep Your Lure in the Water," and "Valley Of Pain." From up-tempo celebrations to intimate, whispered ballads, each track offers a unique statement of belief, conveyed in Travis's familiar, rawboned yet expressive style.
"I wanted to record another inspirational CD for several reasons, " explains Travis. "One being the response from the first CD, Inspirational Journey. The many letters and calls concerning the effect it had on people's lives, also the love for writing and recording a Christian message. And probably the most rewarding is the performance for an audience that loves the Lord."
For 16 years Travis has been a dominant force in country music. The first country artist to break the multi-platinum sales barrier, he has sold more than 21 million albums and received three Grammys, five Country Music Assn. Awards, eight Academy of Country Music Awards, and ten American Music Awards. Travis also heralds two Dove Awards, the Gospel Music Association's highest honor, in the Country Recorded Song category for "Baptism" and also Bluegrass Album of the Year. Both of these accolades were earned with his Inspirational Journey release on Warner Bros/Atlantic.
"Witnessing firsthand Randy's passion for these songs and his faith is truly a remarkable experience," says Mark Lusk, senior vice president of marketing and artist development for Word Entertainment. "This album will positively impact a lot of people and extend our reach as a label."
Travis comes to Word in part through his association with Word Label Group President Barry Landis. While serving as Atlantic Christian vice-president and general manager, Landis worked closely with Travis on Inspirational Journey, a collection of gospel tunes released by Warner Bros./Atlantic in 2000.
Rise and Shine is produced by Kyle Lehning, whose previous credits include Waylon Jennings, Dan Seals, Bryan White, and Neal McCoy.
Word Records, is a division of Word Entertainment, a Warner/Curb Company, and has long been the leading label for contemporary Christian music.
