Randy Travis recently saw his career receive a revival of sorts - much thanks to signing with Words Records, releasing faith based recordings, and the hit song "Three Wooden Crosses". His move to a more faith-based recording process has been a huge success - and Travis is more popular now than he was just a few short years ago. Much of that success also can be attributed to the likes of Josh Turner, who has taken the neo-classic Country sound and made it a success again. Musically, Around the Bend is classic Randy Travis - more traditional country that recalls the likes of George Jones or Merle Haggard as opposed to the more polished and over-produced sounds of acts like Keith Urban or Rascal Flatts. It's a style that has worked well for Travis all these years, and his fans don't seem to mind. This is probably Travis' least spiritual release - touching on everything from relationships, love, and typical Country topics. Travis knows how to pick songs - especially those that will drive CD sales - such as the humorous "Every Head Bowed" and classic Country sound of "Everything That I Own (Has Got a Dent)". His spiritual moments are present as well, just not as upfront as previous works. "Faith In You" is a strong ballad that should play well on Christian Country and Southern Gospel stations about faith in God. "Around the Bend" touches on uncertainty in life from a Christian perspective. Even though these songs may not be the most outspoken about Travis' faith - one can definitely see how his faith is expressed in different topics like alcoholism ("You Didn't Have a Good Time"), divorce and separation ("From Your Knees"), marriage and love ("Dig Two Graves" and "Love Is a Gamble"). Around the Bend is another fine release from one of Country and Gospel music's most cherished names. It's great to hear Travis continue recording songs like this from a faith perspective.

I just got this CD in the mail & I love it. DIG TWO GRAVES, AROUND THE BEND, & FAITH IN YOU are wonderful. Randy does a great job of blending Country & Gospel together.
