Paul Heil’s “The Gospel Greats” Returns to Nashville

Paul Heil's nationally-syndicated radio program, "The Gospel Greats," returns this weekend (October 6th) to one of America's legendary radio stations, Nashville's 50,000-watt 650 WSM, best known as home of the "Grand Ole Opry." The program will air Sunday mornings from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.

"The Gospel Greats" had aired on WSM from 1988 to 2000, but at a much earlier hour on Sunday mornings. WSM's Kyle Cantrell says returning the program to the air was the result of listener requests for the program, "and we're happy to reinstate it."

Cantrell says "The Gospel Greats" program is a good fit for a country music radio station such as WSM. "Country music and Southern Gospel share a common heritage. For many years, we have included Gospel music in our programming, and our listeners are passionate about it. Paul Heil is one of the most knowledgeable and professional Gospel music broadcasters on the air and we're glad to have his program back in our lineup."

"We're delighted to have the program available once again to our friends, old and new, in the Nashville and Middle Tennessee area," Heil said. "We are especially excited about the new time slot and are hopeful we can reach a lot of new people with good Southern Gospel music and its message."

Ever since its inception in 1980, "The Gospel Greats" program has aired on many country-formatted radio stations throughout the United States, in addition to stations carrying Southern Gospel and other Christian formats. "This has always been a wonderful outreach for the gospel, reaching people who, most likely, wouldn't intentionally tune in a Christian station, but would turn on their favorite country station on Sunday morning," Heil noted.

"The Gospel Greats" program currently airs on about 200 radio stations throughout the United States and in Canada, some of which broadcast on the internet for a worldwide audience.
