Harlan Burton - Strength In The Time of Trouble
Lamp Music Group Gospel Heritage Records GHCD 10602
Take a smooth, mellow voice, surround it with stellar backup singers, support it with top-notch musicians, and mix in great songwriting, and what do you have? Harlan Burton’s new GHR project, “Strength In Time Of Trouble.” I have listened to it over and over, and I am impressed with Harlan’s wonderful voice, as well as the quality of production by Mike Pillow at Lamp Music Group.
The project starts off with the title song, “Strength In Time Of Trouble.” It’s a great Ricky Atkinson song that speaks peace to the troubled soul. “You Need The Power,” the next song will get your heart to pumping, and your hands to clapping. It’s a powerful song proclaiming the power available to Christians. With a country feel, “Let Me Sing Amazing Grace” is a worshipful expression of gratefulness and appreciation for all the Jesus has done for us. Evangelist/Songwriter/Singer James Payne wrote contributed “I’m Still Dancing.” An upbeat tribute to a changed life, it will get you going, for sure.
The next two songs are special dedications from Harlan to his Mom with “Mama’s Song,” and to his Dad with “Son, Everything Is Alright.” The first release to radio from this project, “I’m Getting Richer All The Time,” is next. Also written by Ricky Atkinson, it points to our treasures laid up in Heaven.
Anyone constantly amazed at all that God has done in their life will relate to “The Only Reason I Look Back (is to see how far I’ve come).” It is a praise to God for how far He has brought us. Next is a nice cover of “The Victory’s In The Shout.” The project closes with “Prepare To Meet Your Maker,” a toe-tapper that encourages us that we need to be prepared to meet The Maker in every test and trial we face, because He’ll be right there with us!
Strong, solid singing of great songs make this project a great addition to any Southern Gospel lover’s collection. My favorites are “Strength In Time Of Trouble,” “You Need The Power,” “I’m Still Dancing,” and “Prepare To Meet Your Maker.”
