The Dixie Echoes is a name synonymous with excellent quartet singing. Over the course of the last few years, they have re-invented themselves somewhat as a purely traditional male quartet, in just about every way conceivable. While I regard their last release (Sounds of Sunday) to be better over-all, than this newest recording; this latest effort is a solid piece of work and showcases some of their finest singing to date.

Although the Dixie Echoes tend to hash out old material, they at least try to find songs that not everybody has recorded. Such obscure tune includes, "I'LL BE READY TO GO WITH HIM", "SO MANY REASONS", "UNTIL YOU FIND THE LORD" and "I'M GONNA MOVE TO THE SKY". They also included those oldie goldies that have been re-hashed over and over like "NOT IN A MILLION YEARS", "WALK WITH ME" (one of my all-time favorite songs), "HOW BIG IS GOD" (bass singer Pat Barker does a super job) and "LITTLE IS MUCH."

You won't find many surprises here, but the Dixie Echoes remain consistent with what they do and their fan base will thoroughly enjoy this latest release. One thing that I have always loved about the Dixie Echoes is that everything they sing is done with the utmost class. It defines who they are. While they tend to stick to simple arrangements with simple instrumentation and no stacks (there's a concept!), they are true artists in every aspect of the word. My biggest gripe with this recording is that it clocks in at just under 24 minutes, which I feel is just way too short.

I think this is one of the best cds of this year, if not the best cd of this year period. It's real, it's raw, it's exciting, and it's quality. I'll take 24 minutes of this cd any day over some of the 1 hour atrocities that are released on cd way too often, with less than stellar vocals and subpar songs, and there are a lot of cds like that today. The Echoes can be proud of this album....one of their best.

Ben Harris's avatar We work with the Dixie Echoes at GOGR each year and they are a pleasure to work with, and a breath of fresh air. They are rehearsed, accurate singers, very very good at what they do. I wish more groups would aspire to be as original as DE. They are fun to listen to with an emphasis on the real reason for singing Southern Gospel Music. Well done!
