The Quicks - The Word Is Out

Label- Real Quick Music
Producer- Tommy Cooper, Sally and Rebecca Quick
Website- http://www.thequicksonline.com

Tim and Sally Quick started their exciting music ministry a few years ago while stationed at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida. They along with their daughters Rachel and Rebecca would soon move to Nashville and introduce the country to an exciting brand of Southern Gospel music. The group now consists of Tim, Sally and Rebecca.

Sally is quite a songwriter and is either writer or co-writer on 9 of the 11 songs on the project. “Right Here Right Now” kicks the project off with rockin’ guitars and a heavy drum beat. Tim is featured on another good up tempo song, “At the End of the Day”, one of three songs co-written with Daryl Williams. This is a very commercial song and would be good for radio.

“He Went a Little Farther” features Rebecca and keeps the tempo up. This song has some nice backup vocals that remind me of some of the Carpenter’s recordings. Very nice! Sally is featured on a nice mid tempo song, complete with orchestration, “An Ordinary Day”.

They have included a Bill Gaither classic, “If It Keeps Getting’ Better”, done in an Andrews Sisters style complete with a swing band. The harmony is really tight on this one. They even throw in a little scat singing. “Testimony in Progress” is a jazzy song, featuring Sally and has that Manhattan Transfer sound to it.

Tim takes the lead on “I Wouldn’t Change Knowing the Lord”, another fun little song with a jazzy sound including a ukulele. “Rolling Along” is a great old song written by J. D. Sumner. This is probably the most pure Southern Gospel song on the project and it “rolls along” swiftly. They kept the basic arrangement made famous by the Stamps and yet made it their own.

“Time with the King” features Sally and is a mid tempo ballad. “Either Way It Goes” is the first true ballad on the project. The track on this song is really basic. The song speaks of someone who is facing illness and has come to the realization that no matter the outcome, he’s a winner either way. Tim does a solid job on this song. They close the project out with their single, “The Word Is Out”. This driving tune with a little slide guitar has garnered the Quicks quite a lot of attention in Southern Gospel Music.

This project was really fast paced, which is refreshing. This CD was unpredictable with a variety of musical styles. I really enjoyed their tight family harmonies and unique arrangements. It’s no wonder that “The Word Is Out” on the Quicks.
