The Marksmen Quartet are inducted into Atlanta Country Music Hall of Fame

Dr. Earle Wheeler and all the current Marksmen, Mark Wheeler, Darrin Chambers, Davey Waller and Mark Autry were on hand for the group’s induction into the Atlanta Country Music Hall of Fame at the Northeast Atlanta Hilton Saturday, Nov. 24.

During the induction, organization president Johnny Carson reminisced about watching the gospel TV Shows that emanated from Atlanta as well as the Gospel Singing Jubilee where the Marksmen once made guest appearances. He recalled how they inspired him with their talents when seeing them in concert. Current members of the group reside in White, Dawson, Hall and Banks counties in Georgia. “These boys can really sing!” he said.

Earle Wheeler or Murrayville, GA, in the midst of marking the group’s 40th year on the road since forming it in 1967, shared “I never dreamed all the places we could go and sing. We sang all over the country. I remember someone telling me when I was starting out ‘A bunch of singers from North Georgia will never be able to do anything,’” he said. “That’s not something you tell a Wheeler, its just makes us want to work harder. God has blessed us so much in these forty years. I am so grateful for the support of my wife Shirley.”

In the audience for the presentation were former Marksmen Quartet members Keith Chambers and Randall Franks. Other gospel artists inducted this evening included The Klaudt Indian Family and Dottie Rambo.
