According to a message posted on the Lewis Family's website the family has decided to retire.
The Lewis Family has reached the difficult decision of announcing their retirement. They want to thank all their friends and fans who have supported them during these past 60 years. Continuing health issues and age have caused them to examine their traveling schedule, and they have set their last date as September 5, 2009.

sad to hear of the end of a great group
There is always an end to anything, but they are never easy to accept. This is truely an end to an era of legendary proportions in the gospel singing field. We congratulate the Lewis Family for their continuity of faithfullness.
Sad news but I'm most appreciative of their contribution to gospel music, and I look forward to the next generation of the Lewis like Lewis Phillips to carry on the Lewis family tradition.

Ending on my 51st birthdate... something I really didnot want to celebrate.....another decade and the lost of somle real soldiers in the field. THANKS for 60 great years.
