The Frosts - “Through His Eyes”

image
Produced by:  Shane Roark
Morning Frost Music

Consisting of Michael Frost, Brenda Cornett Livesay and Candie Frost Tunnell, this group has a big sound, and at the heart of that sound is Brenda.  Her colossal voice, which reminds me of the power Dottie Rambo used to sing with in the late 60s and 70s, is one you’ll either love it or hate it; and I love it!  Also in their favor is the songwriting of Michael Frost.  Already with a hit song on his hands with “That’s God” recorded by Heirline, Michael penned over half the songs on this recording.  I would describe their sound as Black Pentecostal Southern Gospel, and I love it.  They seem like they sing with everything within them and it’s infectious!

THREE WORDS, THREE NAILS, THREE DAYS” is the groups first single and it is a powerhouse.  By the time the song is over, you too will be shouting…“Glory Hallelujah, I have been set free, all the answers to life’s questions, I found at Calvary…I am saved, I am redeemed, and I’m proud to say it’s all because of three words, three nails and three days.”

Moving on to a more country flavor, “SHINING LIGHT” carries a message to let your light shine for the world to see, while “THIS RACE I’VE BEGUN” is an excellent song of determination to finish this race we’ve begun and press towards the prize before us.

IF YOU COULD SEE YOURSELF (THROUGH MY EYES)” an extraordinary song of encouragement explaining just how much Christ loves us.  As if He is speaking directly to you, He says…“Child, if you could see yourself through My eyes, you would see how much you are loved…”

Full of energy, the group dives into “THERE’S AN ARMY OF GOD.”  I have to admit, this is my favorite on the recording.  I just can’t get enough of this song and the lyrics are super…“there’s an army of God, and it’s led by a King, it’s never defeated, the wounded still sing…in triumph we’re marching and we’re ready to leave.”  The reprise makes the song even more electrifying.  Another song full of energy is “LET THE STORM PASS OVER”, as well as the closing song “GET BEHIND ME DEVIL.”

Other songs range from the heartfelt “I’LL BE SO GLAD I MADE IT HOME”, to the easy feel of “SET FOR ETERNAL LIFE”, and the stirring “BY THE POWER VESTED IN ME” to the positive message of “ALIVE IN CHRIST” which are all excellent songs in their own right.

If you like Southern Gospel with a lot of soul, then this is the group for you.  I hear a ton of potential with this group and look forward to hearing a lot more from them.  The overall quality of the recording isn’t exactly what you’d get from a major label, but it’s still good.  I am one who takes great pleasure in listening to new talent; this group is definitely a gem.  The next couple years will really be interesting to see what this group does.  Remember their name, they’re going to be big.
