Sheri LaFontaine – Dreams Come True

Producer: Anthony Burger/Isaac LaFontaine
Label:
Independent Release
Website: www.sherilafontaine.com

If I may coin a phrase Vince Gill used when describing the awesome vocals of Martina McBride and apply it to Sheri LaFontaine, “God came down smacked her vocal chords!” What a voice this young lady has! I have been a fan of her songwriting for a while now, as she has had some great songs recorded by LordSong, Kim Hopper, Hoskins Family, Ruppes and others. I have heard her with the Arnolds via their recordings, but hearing her on this solo recording literally blows me away. Again I say, what a voice! She has an infectious charisma that you can't help but enjoy. It's like you can see her smiling the whole time she is singing and before long, she'll have you smiling and breaking into song right along with her.

Starting off the recording, Sheri breaks into her song made popular by LordSong entitled, “WHILE I WAIT” and does a marvelous job as well as the fun, “HE'S ALL THAT”. She slows things down with the CCM stylings of “SAVE ME FROM MY ERRING WAY” , which is one of her best performances on this recording.

“YOU'RE IN THE ARMY NOW” quickly picks the pace right back up and you'll find your feet taping for sure on this song. There's no way to adequately describe the arrangement of the classic hymn, “DO YOU KNOW MY JESUS” except for magnificently beautiful. Sheri sings with Stephen Hill (who sings the second verse) and Ben Speer, this song is just absolutely gorgeous.

With a bit of a black, soulful flare, Sheri sings “REJOICE” and really showcases the great vocal range she has, before turning in her own rendition of the ever-popular, “WHEN NOTHING BUT A MIRACLE WILL DO”. Sheri then shows off her country side with the song, “GOODBYE, GOD BLESS YOU”. Ironically, she sounds a lot like Angie Hoskins on this song. Continuing with the country flavor but with a bit more beat is the title song “DREAMS COME TRUE”. This song provides us with a Sheri duet, LaFontaine and Easter that is, and they sound great together. Things slow back down for the entrancing, “VISION OF TOMORROW”.

Sheri's acapella arrangement of “THE STAR-BANGLED BANNER” didn't really tickle my ear, but she didn't do badly on it either and she shows off some interesting vocal flip-flops. Closing out the recording is a song written by producer, Anthony Burger along with Amy Susan Foster entitled, “FLOW THROUGH ME” , and it wraps things up providing us with a wonderful moment of worship.

This is such a refreshing recording. Sheri penned half the songs on here, and what is presented here is some of her best work. Though she is more known as a songwriter, this recording showcases the vocals behind the songs. One thing I love about her voice is that no matter the style of the song, she makes her voice fit that style. No matter the style, she can do it and do it flawlessly.

Personal Favs: WHILE I WAIT; HE'S ALL THAT; SAVE ME FROM MY ERRING WAY; YOU'RE IN THE ARMY NOW; DO YOU KNOW MY JESUS; GOODBYE, GOD BLESS YOU

I heard Sheri sing when she was filling in for Angie Hoskins while Angie was sick one time. Sheri has a great, powerful voice! It's funny that you said that she sounded like Angie on one of the songs. I thought the exact same thing on some songs during the Hoskins concert. I just may have to get this CD! Thanks, James!

Sheri LaFontaine is an incredible vocalist, songwriter and Christian. When she interprets a song, she sings it with great passion and tremendous voice control. Her heart truly goes into her songs, for you can feel the anointing of God when she sings them. I am so privileged to call Sheri my friend and to have the honor of recording two songs that she has written.
