Rayburn wins Dottie Rambo Songwriting Contest

LOGAN, W.Va. - (05/24/06) - Hundreds of Gospel music lovers in the Mountain State attended several musical events during Dottie Rambo Weekend, held last in Logan, W.Va. — all for a good cause.

Dignity Hospice, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, wrapped up fundraising events from this past weekend with legendary singer/songwriter Dottie Rambo.

Mike Collins, public relations coordinator for Dignity Hospice, recently spoke about Ms. Rambo and the fundraiser. “It has been a tremendous weekend and Logan County has fallen in love with Dottie Rambo,” he said Thursday. “We had a little more than sixty people attend the songwriters seminar, held Friday night at the Savas-Kostas Theater of Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College. From what we hear, that is higher than the national average of such songwriting seminars in bigger cities. Then, Saturday night we had more than seven hundred in attendance for the concert at the Coalfield Jamboree.”

The winner of the Dottie Rambo Songwriter’s Contest was also revealed at Friday’s seminar. Debbie Rayburn, of Charleston, W.Va., won the contest with her song, entitled, “It Could Have Been Me.” Debbie then opened for Ms. Rambo on Saturday and will now have an opportunity to pitch her songs to Daywind Records, in Nashville, TN, in the near future.

The money raised during these events will go toward paying for hospice services for residents of Logan, Mingo, Lincoln, Boone and Wayne counties who don’t have Medicaid, or an insurance policy covering hospice care.

“This money will pay for various services, medications and equipment for many patients who are in need,” Collins said. “These events have made it possible for Dignity Hospice to keep our patient’s pain free, comfortable and in the care of their families at home.”
