Mark Bishop - Can I Pray for You?

I think Mark Bishop has hit his stride with this recording. Mark has the uncanny ability to stir our hearts with his songs and he has the vocals by which to sing those songs with such feeling and emotion. I didn’t think Mark could beat his first recording “Faith, Family & Friends”, but he surpassed it with this newest release, “Can I Pray For You?” .

Mark can weave a story like few songwriters can and the extraordinary story about faith and salvation in “OCTOBER HARVEST” warms the heart and sets the tone for the whole recording. If you’re like me and highly enjoy his story songs, then this recording will not disappoint. “I GOT HERE AS FAST AS I COULD” and “LET ME TELL WHAT HE DID FOR ME” are but two examples of Mark’s storytelling prowess.

The highly energetic “ANGELS SWING A LITTLE LOWER” is a song you’ll be hitting the repeat button with quite a bit as well as “TURN LOOSE FOR NOTHIN’” (which offers some good, sound advice) and “WE NEED JESUS”.

I honestly feel “CAN I PRAY FOR YOU?” will be Mark’s first #1 song. This is such a tender song and typical of Mark’s writings. In contrast, showing off Mark’s soulful side is the song “FILLED AND FULFILLED”, while “SHOW US LOVE-PART I” portrays an intriguing story and one that many of us can or at least one day, will probably relate to.

“JESUS IS A QUIET PLACE FOR ME ” is a fascinating song musically, as the verses and chorus feature different time signatures, but lyrically, is one we all should be able to share. Mark closes the recording with “SHOW US LOVE-PART II” which brings Part I to a more personal level and a different point of view.

I have always been a fan of Mark’s writings, and appreciate the values and thoughts he tries to convey through his songs. He is a remarkable writer and an excellent vocalist. With a style vocally similar to James Taylor, one can find Mark’s laid-back approach very easy to listen to. “Can I Pray For You?” is one of the finest releases for 2004. Going out on a limb, I will dare say that this could be the recording by which all other Mark Bishop recordings are measured!

Personal Favs: OCTOBER HARVEST; ANGELS SWING A LITTLE LOWER; CAN I PRAY FOR YOU?; I GOT HERE AS FAST AS I COULD; SHOW US LOVE

 I have to wholeheartedly agree. I read this review last week and decided to stop in a local Christian Bookstore and listen to a demo copy they had available over the weekend. I was particularly moved by "October Harvest" and "Can I Pray for You". Mark really outdid himself on writing for this project, and I can't imagine anyone not enjoying it. This CD is one I will enjoy for a very long time.

Mark's songwriting gift is surpassed only by his Kentucky-bred character and easygoing attitude. He's a true Christian gentleman.
I'm proud to be Mark's friend, and have been quite honored to be his radio promoter for almost four years now.
Pushing a Mark Bishop song up the chart is about as hard as raising a forkfull of momma's homemade apple pie to my mouth.
Thanks for another top-flight review James!
