Jonathan Wilburn Leaves Gold City

Longtime lead singer, Jonathan Wilburn, of Gold City has departed the group. According to Daniel Riley, "Jonathan has felt for a while that the Lord was leading him in another direction." Riley said they were prepared for Jonathan's departure and had someone ready to step in and fill the vacancy. Bruce Taliaferro is now the new lead singer.

Riley stated that the group will be issuing a formal press release next week with more information on Taliaferro. It is unclear at this time what Jonathan Wilburn's future plans are.

I am 67 years old and I love southern gospel music and have since I was a small child.

WOW! This just blows my socks off! Jonathan [in my opinion] has been the staple of Gold City for a WHILE now. No doubt, he will be a sought after lead singer that won't be long without a job. Let him take a few days off while he mulls over the upcoming offers. We are also great fans of his parents.

Skullitor's avatar Was he longer tenured as GC's lead singer than
    Ivan Parker?

Jonathon certainly made his mark in the storied history of Gold City. He always had a spiritual presence about him that impacted me when I would see the group in concert. He would talk about when God saved him as a boy...I always liked that. He is obviously a big-league singer, and if he so chooses will land in a major quartet again before long. He will be missed by Gold City fans.

I have been a Gold City fan since I can remember and truly Jonathan Wilburn will go down in history as one of the best they have ever had right along side of Ivan Parker. Good luck Jonathan and may the Lord guide your footsteps and Thank You for all the wonderful memories you have given me over the years. From moon walking on the mainstage at convention to helping somebody pray through at a church altar, you my friend will be missed.

GOLD CITY IS MY FAVORITE GROUP AND IS ONE OF THE REASONS I CAME BACK TO CHRIST. I KNOW GROUPS CHANGE FROM TIME TO TIME, BUT THIS HAS ABSOLUTLEY KNOCKED MY SOCKS OFF! I WENT TO SEE THEM 2 WEEKENDS AGO AND THER WAS NO INDICATION THIS WAS GOING TO HAPPEN. AS FAR AS IM CONCERNED JONATHAN IS THE BEST LEAD SINGER IN THE BUSINESS. HE ALONG WITH TIM RILEY MADE GOLD CITY FOR THE PAST FEW YEARS. I AM MORE SHOCKED NOW THAN WHEN TIM RETIRED! I JUST PRAY FOR JONATHAN AND GOLD CITY. THEY WILL STILL BE MAY FAVORITE GROUP, BUT IT WILL TAKE ME A WHILE TO GET USED TO THIS.
