Jimmy Dooley - Jesus Music

Producer: Jimmy Dooley
Label: Independent Release
Website: http://www.jimmydooley.com

I've been privileged to write reviews for Jimmy's music in the past and I've always been thoroughly impressed with his writing abilities. He writes outside the box, but yet writes well within the box to satisfy the more finicky of listeners. His style is definitely old time Pentecostal, but yet very hip and edgy. While several artists have recorded his music such as Ivan Parker, Beene Family, Palmetto State Quartet, Galloways and others, I haven't quite figured out why more artists haven't yet picked up on his songs. I'm still waiting for the BIG one!

The recording kicks off with the upbeat guitar infested tune, "NOW I KNOW" and continues that feel on the following song, "A LOT OF THINGS RIGHT". The pace finally slows down for the more acoustically charged tune, "IT ONLY MADE ME STRONGER".

A challenge to the church, Jimmy writes some very thought provoking songs like "LET THINGS BOTHER ME", "BE THE CHANGE" and "DARE TO BE DIFFERENT" and are all highlights of the recording. Jimmy also writes the more inner reflective tunes like "JUST ME", "HOW FAR" and "ACCEPTED".

The title track, "JESUS MUSIC", is a funk infested tune that is fun to listen to and Jimmy does a really good job getting his message across that "I'm gonna play my Jesus Music, and I'll crank it up real loud, 'cause I want the world to hear His name, I'm born again and I am proud.I want to shout for joy when I listen to it, that Jesus Music."

Before the recording finishes out, Jimmy turns in his own rendition of his hit song (by way of the Galloways), "I TOLD 'EM THAT I'D MAKE IT" and is a true highlight of the recording before the recording wraps up with a song Jimmy co-wrote with Steve Cheney entitled, "THAT'S WHAT LOVE CAN DO".

Jimmy is an unconventional singer/songwriter delivering the conventional truth that Jesus saves and delivers. Jimmy is a fresh and exciting talent and I look forward to hearing his music for many years to come. His talent goes beyond just his writing and singing abilities, as he produced and played several different instruments on this recording. This is no shabby, thrown together recording. From beginning to end, Jimmy does a tremendous job producing a great effort that I believe goes beyond anything he has previously recorded; a truly exceptional piece of work.

Jimmy is such a gifted guy, and it's been a blessing to know him as a friend. We love his music, and may he only continue to climb higher!
