Janet Paschal - Sounds like Sunday

Producer: Wayne Haun
Label: Vine Records
Website: http://www.janetpaschal.com

For years Janet Paschal has been the benchmark for dignity and elegance, and this latest release is all the explanation you need as to why. Much more than just another hymns project, this latest release is a journey into where Janet has been, where she is right now, and where she's going, and is a wonderful collaboration between Janet and award winning producer, Wayne Haun. If there ever is a producer and singer meant to make beautiful music together, it is Wayne and Janet.

Sounds of Sunday features a wonderful potpourri of musical styles ranging from the high church sounds of "O WORSHIP THE KING", the dramatic "BE STILL MY SOUL" and the pipe organ feature, "WHEN I SURVEY THE WONDROUS CROSS" to the soulful beats of "MYSTERIOUS WAYS" and "SURELY, GOD IS ABLE" to the blues stylings of "WHEN GOD DIPS HIS LOVE IN MY HEART".

The real warmth of the recording though, comes from the more simple, yet elegant tunes like "TURN YOUR EYES UPON JESUS" (which features some excellent background vocal work by Haun), "I SEE A CRIMSON STREAM", "NEAR THE CROSS", "WHAT A FRIEND WE HAVE IN JESUS", "THE SAVIOR IS WAITING" and one of my all time favorite hymns, "LET THE LOWER LIGHTS BE BURNING".

Janet somehow manages to take each lyric, wrap herself around them, and paint a beautiful and marvelous picture of grace, mercy and love. With the help of Wayne Haun, Janet allows those who listen, almost 50 minutes of pure, unadulterated music, sincere, heartfelt vocals and true, life changing lyrics. If I had one gripe about the recording, it is that on the few big production numbers, the music tends to drown out Janet's vocals.but it is not near to the point where I still cannot enjoy it.

Hymn recordings are usually B products, table projects or something thrown together to sell to whomever will buy it. But this is far and above, greater than any hymns project released in quite awhile. I'd even put it up there with Sandi Patti's colossal hymns recording from the mid 1980's, Hymns Just For You. It's that good!

Song titles:
1 - O Worship the King
2 - Mysterious Ways
3 - Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus
4 - I See a Crimson Stream
5 - Near the Cross
6 - Surely, God is Able
7 - What a Friend we Have in Jesus
8 - Be Still my Soul
9 - Let the Lower Lights be Burning
10-When God Dips His Love in my Heart
11-The Savior is Waiting
12-When I Survey the Wondrous Cross
