HisSong - On the Way Up

Producer: Wayne Haun
Label: Vine Records
Website: http://www.hissongmusic.com

HisSong has made great strides over the course of the last couple of years to really kick things up a notch and release some really good music that is much better than the average. They continue to raise the bar for themselves, and as the title implies, they are definitely on their way up!

The recording starts off with 3 familiar tunes. The title song, "ON THE WAY UP", is a classic Joel Hemphill tune from the early 1970's and the guys turn in a soulful rendition of the tune before moving on the classic Ola Graves song, "THE GRAVE CAN'T HOLD ME", which has already done very well for the group on radio, and the guys do a superb job with their rendition of the song. The pace finally picks up with another Hemphill penned tune from the mid-1980s called "THE MIRACLE MAN" calling everyone to "stand still and see the wonders of the miracle man."

Wayne Haun and Joel Lindsay provided several collaborated tunes (as a writing duo and with other writers) for this recording including, "OUT OF HIS WAY", "OUR HIGHEST PRAISE", "THE THINGS THAT WON'T BE THERE", "I DON'T REGRET", "THAT'S WHEN GOD STEPS IN" (this could be the makings of an excellent radio song), "BECAUSE OF THE BLOOD" as well as the highlight of the recording, 'THROUGH EVERY STORM", which Haun co-wrote with Tony Wood and group member, Dennis Humphries.

The uptempo "JOY IN MY HEART" (which follows a similar arrangement to the Hoppers rendition from the few years ago, but with just a bit of tweaking) and their latest single, "I STILL HAVE IT ALL" complete the song list.
By all accounts, this is a top notch recording; great music tracks, excellent vocals, stellar arrangements and solid songs. My only hold up is that I would have liked a bit more variety as far as songs and styles go. Some of the songs run together for me and tend to not stand out. But with the songs being offered here, HisSong knocked it out of the ballpark and showcased quite a bit of versatility, and should actually win over a few new fans, while keeping their current fan base quite happy.

Hissong is one of my wife and my favorites. We attend their homecoming each year and catch them when they are in our area. We have all of their recordings and think that they are getting better with each new album. We still like a lot of the older recordings as well but the grave cant hold me may be their best yet.

I think this is the best Cd HisSong has ever put out. They did a fine job on the songs. BUT the reviewer of this CD, way off in left field. He must have not been paying much attention to the cd while he was reviewing it. His comment was<

This cd has Southern Gospel, Country Gospel, Praise and Worship, Black Gospel. If That is Not a Varity of song selection, then I dont know what is. I think the reviewer needs to find another job. bc obviously he cant do this one very well. Sorry to be so harsh. HISSONG Keep up the GREAT WORK! You know more about music than the Reviewer does. YOU music has Touched my life in SO many ways. IT Speaks to all walks of life. GOD WILL BLESS YOU ALL.

I have to agree with Sherry a hundred percent. This CD is FULL of variety. It is the best CD I have ever heard in my life. With most groups I like some of the songs on the CD but not all of the songs. I LOVE EVERY song on HisSongs "On The Way Up" cd. There is not a song on there that doesn't speak to me and bless me in some way. And like the lady above said, it has all types of styles. Their new release I Still Have It All should speak to EVERY Christian, because we have all lost something in our life big or small, but we STILL have Jesus and that is ALL we need.

Congratulations HisSong, you knocked the ball out of the park on this CD - GRAND SLAM!!!!

This CD is full of variety. But what strikes me is that the reviewer puts an emphasis on "variety". If I am looking for variety I'll go to the secular genre. But in Gospel/Christian music I want to be ministered to. This is the MOST anointed group that I have ever seen, and I’ve seen a bunch of them. Every HisSong concert that I have been to the Holy Spirit has filled the place and I have received a blessing. AWESOME job HisSong!

James Hales's avatar Two sentences, 35 words out of entire review ruffles your feathers that much? Come on guys...don't take this review so seriously. It's only my opinion...which obviously you disagree with...and that's cool.

Other than those 2 sentences, I thought I gave it a great review...after all, it got 4 stars, which means that it is a great record and is definitely a notch above the others.

It's a review of the music, not their anointing...that's not my call or anyone else's...that's up to God.

Congrats, boys!!!! You are so very special and this project is remarkable. I continue to receive blessing each time I listen. This project has been my rock through several trials. The songs all direct me to My Lord and Savior for peace and sanctuary. I really can't pick one song as my favorite, each and every one witnesses to me. Love you guys, God Bless, Mary

This is the absolutely BEST CD I have ever heard from a Southern Gospel group. WOW what a tremndous job you have done with this recording. My wife and I continue to receive such a blesing each time we attend your singings. The presence of the Holy Spirit is always there as is the annointing on each of you. God Bless you and may he watch over you as you continue to do His work.

    In His Name,
    Leon & Tracy

Ditto to everything, everyone has mentioned about this absolutely BLESSED AND ANOINTED project. This has brought such joy to my family, and I am complete anticipation of the next project. If it continues to get better, it may not be safe to play it in my car. The Holy Spirit gets all over me. Also, congrats to Cannon on his upcoming marriage.
    Love you boys,
    Deon and Family
