Christmas Memories

What is our favorite Christmas memory as a child?

"My favorite Christmas memory as a child is of the ENORMOUS Christmas village my mom would display every year. It got to be so large, that newspapers in the Detroit area were calling our home to see if they could come over and take photos and do write ups for their Christmas features. It was displayed for years before my mom finally wanted to take it down. It consisted of 5 levels and literally included hundreds of beautifully decorated and lit homes. It was STUNNING. One of the neatest aspects of it is this; When my mom found out she had cancer in 1995, creating this Christmas wonderland was the only thing that kept her mind off of the fact that she had cancer. She finished the village right before she went into surgery and came out with a clean bill of health. It was the greatest Christmas present ever."
- Kimberly Allen, The Allens / Allens Design Group

"Beating my parents to the tree!"
- Jacob Kitson - Greater Vision

"The year I got some real 'grown-up' high heels that were small enough to fit my little girl feet.  And my Grandmother's jam cake!"
- Dianne Wilkinson, award-winning songwriter

"When I was 8 years old, I got my first set of He-Man action figures.  I got Battle Cat and Skeletor both that year.  It was awesome!"
- Curtis Hagy, Brothers Forever

"One of my favorite memories as a child was when my brothers and myself got identical Tonka trucks when we were very young.  That was back in the day when the Tonka truck was made out of steel! lol  We would spend hours and hours abusing and having complete fun with those toys.  Believe me when I say that our parents got their money's worth!"
- Timothy Mills, Southern Brothers

"Wow!  That was a LONG time ago!  I guess my favorite Christmas memory from WAY back then, would be the year I got my first bicycle.  My parents never had a lot of extra money, and I remember feeling so special that they would sacrifice something they might have needed so I could have something I wanted.  I'm still amazed at their generosity, even today!"
- Gerald Wolfe, Greater Vision

"My cousin tried to sneak a few of my fireworks, but in the process lit the entire box my Dad had bought for my Brother and I. The ensuing "explosion" on the screened-in front porch of my Grandmother's little mill house nearly burned it down! "
- Scott Robinson, Eighth Day

"My mom and dad always bought our gifts early.. and thought they were hiding them in the back bedroom closet.  Seems like I located the secret hiding place the first time they used it.  Anyway..  one year I ventured to the back bedroom.. reaching way back into the dark closet to see if I could "feel" any Christmas surprises.  My medium sized, 12 year old, fingers found the strings on a Sears "Silvertone" electric guitar.  Wow.. what a Christmas this would be!  It was 1965.. maybe, just maybe.. I could join the Beatles someday."
- Chuck Peters, SGShowPrep / SouthernGospelReporter.com

"My favorite Christmas memory as a child was when my family would all gather around the piano and sing Christmas carols during Christmas Eve.  My Mom would play the piano and my Dad, brother and sister and I would all sing."
- Jerry Martin, Dove Brothers

"When we got to take a family in need some thing too put under their tree.  It was so
awesome to see there faces light up.  I cried the whole time!"
- Adam Crabb, Crabb Revival

"One of my favorite childhood Christmas memories is getting a 'Little
Miss GTO' white and blue bike with a white basket.  I put my new baby doll inside the basket and rode around the rest of the day.  Great Memory."
- Karen Peck Gooch, Karen Peck & New River

"I guess my favorite Christmas memory was when Santa brought my sister and I our first bicycles.  I'll never forget thinking, 'How'd he get those down the chimney?!!'"
- Rodney Griffin

"As a child, peaking downstairs and seeing my Tiny Tears dolls being placed under the tree, boy was I surprised on Christmas morning."
- Mary Jane Carter, The Pfeifers

"As a child my family, being Jewish, never celebrated Christmas. My brother and I used to go to my friend's house every year. We'd take a NYC Subway from the Bronx to Manhattan.  Many years it was already snowing a lot, but we didn't care! We'd walk into Maria's house and it took my breath away! The smell of cinnamon, baked apples, turkey in the oven and the warm feeling of togetherness. The decorations were spectacular. We always had a wonderful time. Although I never really understood what Christmas was really about, it was an exciting time for two Jewish kids!"
- Lily Isaacs, The Isaacs

What is your favorite Christmas memory as an adult?

"My favorite Christmas memory is when, after dinner, my whole family gets together for prayer before opening all our gifts. We always read the Story of our Lord's birth out of the Bible then get down on our knees in a circle and pray. We Thank Jesus for the gift of Salvation and Praise Him for us all being together. Naturally, all my grandchildren are anxious for the presents, but we have upheld this tradition throughout the years."
- Lily Isaacs, The Isaacs

"My favorite memory of Christmas as an adult is when I proposed to my then fiancee (now wife Cyndi) and asked her to marry me. I gave her a Christmas ornament (she had no clue) and she opened it and found the diamond ring!!  What a night!!!"
- Gary Ballew, Brothers Forever

"In 1990, my Dad (an Anglican minister) had a vision of producing an outdoor theatre production that would tell our community about the real meaning of Christmas. Yes, that's outdoors in December ... in Ontario! We wrote a script called 'The Real Christmas Story - A Walk Through.' The audience traveled through our churchyard watching different scenes on different stages. We started with the predictions of Isaiah and Jeremiah, met the angels and the shepherds, and finally ended in Bethlehem on that Holy Night. The show was such a success that it ran for ten Christmases! Over the years, I acted as writer, director, actor, and singer. One year, we were even recorded for a TV documentary. Our final year, I got to stand at the end of the churchyard and pass out hot cider to our chilly audience members. I heard countless stories from people who had come every year, or who considered our show the start of their Christmas season. I have countless memories from those ten years, but the most satisfying was knowing we had shared the Gospel with thousands of people."
- Allison Lynn

"Sitting in the living room with the tree all lit up and the lights out, listening to my kids ask me questions about the birth of Jesus and the events that happened then.  I hope and pray that is what they will always remember."
- David Staton, Mike LeFevre Quartet / Song Garden Music Group

"Letting my parents beat me to the tree!"
- Jacob Kitson, Greater Vision

"My favorite Christmas memory as an adult would be getting the family over to our house and I cook them a Christmas dinner with all the trimmings.  I even make homemade buiscuts to!  Then we gather around the Christmas tree and open a few gifts on Christmas Eve.  Sing around the piano to.  It is a wonderful time that we share as a family."
- Jerry Martin, Dove Brothers

"That would have to be watching my son grow into enjoying Christmas morning.  One year, while holiday shopping, our two year old spotted a 'Sylvester the Cat' stuffed toy. Brian (our son) cried for the toy.. and made quite a scene in the store.  He had seen 'Sylvester' on cartoons... and now to see him in real life was quite a treat.   I ended up going back to the store and buying the stuffed Sylvester for Brian to find under the tree Christmas morning.  Brian, now 33.. still has "Syl-Buster"..  yes at age two he called him 'Syl-Buster' ..so what else would we call him now."
- Chuck Peters, SGShowPrep / SouthernGospelReporter.com

"My favorite memory continues every year.  It is a great joy in my life watching my daughter, nieces and nephews open presents and see the excitement on their faces.  Through them the magic of Christmas remains alive and vibrant."
- Timothy Mills, Southern Brothers

"Having two little girls has been so much fun.  My favorite thing is to watch them open their gifts.  The excitement on their little faces is indescribable to me."
- Rodney Griffin

"My brother and I both were blessed to have baby boy's born about the same time. It was the first child for each of us, and the first Grandchildren for our Parents. My Dad bought a 'family' copy of The Christmas Story that first year for us to read together on Christmas Eve. I recall the first year that my son Caleb could read for us .... our gift reading about the true Christmas gift. Wow."
- Scott Robinson, Eighth Day

"The first year my wife and I were married, I wanted a new guitar.  I had owned the same guitar that I bought on my own when I was 14 years old and needless to say, it was a little banged up.  We opened presents at my parents house and after all the presents were opened, I still had no guitar.  I was disappointed, but my Mom said 'well, we got one more gift.'  My Dad went to the back bedroom and came out with a guitar shaped box with Christmas paper wrapped all around it.  My parents had bought me a new guitar for Christmas!"
- Curtis Hagy, Brothers Forever

"Having my friend, Kyle Underwood, show up at our house on Christmas morning to surprise my two sons, who were six and three at the time.  Kyle was dressed in 'full Santa suit', and my boys screamed with excitement as he handed out the gifts without speaking too much, so as to not give away his identity.  As Santa Claus left the house, telling the boys he was running late, we kept them away from the doors and windows so they couldn't witness his departure.  Ben somehow managed to get to a window and yelled out "hey... where's the sleigh?  Santa Claus is driving a truck just like Uncle Kyle's!"
- Gerald Wolfe, Greater Vision

"My favorite adult memory of Christmas is spending time with my family. We always love being home.  We also catch all the Christmas movies, too."
- Karen Peck Gooch, Karen Peck & New River

"As an adult, that same joy is  when my brothers and their wives and children all come home on Christmas Eve to spend the night. I love waking up to watch the kids open presents."
-  Mary Jane Carter, The Pfeifers

"I was living in Atlanta and staying at my parent's house for Christmas. When we got up on Christmas morning, the ground was covered in snow (unusual for us) and parked on my parent's front lawn was a huge snow sled filled with beautifully wrapped gifts. It looked as though Santa himself had made a stopover and forgot where he parked his vehicle (I know the feeling.) Having no idea how this may have happened, for a fraction of a second, I thought I was in the middle of an apparition, a mirage, a miracle.  It turns out that a fan had discovered my parent's address then built and delivered the beautiful sled and gifts. We're still amazed when we think of it, but the best moment was that brief suspension of reality when I asked, 'Is this real?'"
- Janet Paschal

- Dianne Wilkinson, award-winning songwriter

"I'd love for us to have at least one more 'family' Christmas.  We've never been able to have one with all 5 kids (along with their husbands and wives), Mom and Dad, and all my nieces and nephews!  That would be great!"

- Curtis Hagy, Brothers Forever

"A newspaper reporting that something amazing was sweeping across our country .... REVIVAL!"
- Scott Robinson, Eighth Day

"A 'Flying J' diesel fuel gift card, good for a year's supply for the bus!"
- Gerald Wolfe, Greater Vision

"My wife and I rarely buy for each other on Christmas and focus on the kids. I would love to give her something she would always remember!"
- David Staton, Mike LeFevre Quartet / Song Garden Music Group

"I'm hoping for any peanut M&M's that Gary Casto doesn't eat ..... I prefer the dark chocolate ones, though ... they are much healthier."
- Ken Grady, Gospel Music Today

"Ideally: Green cards for Gerald and me. Realistically: I'll take a Kitkat bar and a pedicure, please!"
- Allison Lynn

"Under the tree I don't need one thing. I'm blessed to still have my parents in there senior years, and we have a great Christmas celebrating together."
- Mary Jane Carter, The Pfeifers

"What I'd like to see under the tree this year is all the torn apart wrapping paper after my kids and and grandkids have opened their gifts. Their feeling of excitement is priceless. Just having my family with me is the best gift I could ever have!!!!"
- Lily Isaacs, The Isaacs

"I would love to see a note from Jesus that says 'Today, nobody will die or suffer or be lonely---- only peace and joy and love on earth'.  One day we will get to open that present!!!!!!"
- Gary Ballew, Brothers Forever

"The one thing I'd love under the Christmas tree this year is health for my entire family."
- Karen Peck Gooch, Karen Peck & New River

"A new Camaro! Red with charcoal racing stripes!"
- Jacob Kitson, Greater Vision

Boy an imac computer under the christmas tree. That would be like giving wine to an alchoholic. Flee from temptation. If your right hand offensds the cut it off.
